Default Clay Bar?

Well my truck has gone through the elements for a while now, and before my dad gave it to me it actually sat for a while. The paint looks pretty dull and I would say has lost a lot if not all of the clear coat it once had. To add some luster back I was thinking about clay baring the entire truck? Anyone had success with that? If there are any other suggestions to add some shine to my black beauty please feel free to mention them thanks guys

If the paint is oxidized, you'll need a cleaner/polish to cut through and bring back the gloss.
THIS can help
- available at Advance/autozone/pepboys/Amazon/ etc ..

I have a Black Magic Pearl 2004 VW Golf R32 that I used clay bar then the BB kit on ..
(BMP paint = very heavy ultrafine metalflake content)

This BB kit is very labor intensive - but quite well worth it.

Clay bar, then cleaner/polisher. A lot of work, but the results will just about knock you over.

The claybar is just to pull off the surface things that normal washing doesn't seem to. It brings it to a truly 'clean' status. Would also use something like Dawn dish detergent for that wash only! It helps pull all the crap off, including old wax and works well with the clay bars out there. Then a good polish with some mild cut to it, high speed buffer and the right pads, some wax for good measure and you're set.

There's only one the pros use (ok maybe a slight exaggeration but not by much):

The clear coat is a good step but it sounds like your clearcoat would really benefit from a good rub out with a light rubbing compound. Then do the clay bar, then wash, wax and polish.
