^those bench flow numbers sure seem like bs. They are really high to start with. If done correctly you'd expect a magnaflow to flow under 1000cfm. Depends how it was tested though.

Also, bench flow is not everything, pressure drop matters as well(back pressure). Say you have an oem muffler that does flow 1000cfm, and at a flow of 150cfm it has a pressure drop of 4 inches mercury, well if you double the flow to 300cfm it'll probably have a pressure drop of like 16 inches mercury(QUADRUPLE the backpressure).

Then take a magnaflow that also flows 1000cfm, and at a flow of 150cfm it'll have a pressure drop of say 3 or 4 inches mercury. Double the flow to 300cfm, it'll probably have a pressure drop of like 5 or 6 inches mercury.

The aftermarket maggy will outperform greatly(as is proven by people doing exhaust changes and dyno).

You're actually hearing your truck with a Magnaflow SS. I can hear a flowmaster coming from 200 yards because it sounds like dog s h i t. You're listening to fake muscle...air passing through cheap raw metal and foam inserts...ooooohhhhh so impressive. We all know we don't swap our mufflers for performance, come on guys get real

The current muffler is the flowmaster 40 and gets the fuel economy I mentioned in the earlier post. It has a terrible drone, so I want to replace it.

I don't believe that a stock universal replacement will keep my mileage up, so I think I want to get another highflow exhaust.

I'm now leaning towards the Gibson Super Truck SS side exhaust.

My guess is that the performance exhaust does improve fuel economy by about 10% and will pay for itself over a universal stock replacement. The exhaust shop expressed the same opinion.
Just want to post a note for you on the Gibson Super Truck side exhaust. I had originally put it on my 04 Ram when I bought it new. I only had a few hundred miles on it when I had to have it. Here in maine we have inspection laws and I got picked up a couple times right away with it. I had to change it out for the Gibson Cat back dual setup to keep me from getting tickets and I found out it was not inspectable here in Maine. So, word to the wise, check your inspection laws if your in an inspection state. It is a nice aggressive sounding setup though. I loved it and it sounded mean when you tromp on the pedal along the guardrails Probably why I got yanked over with it? hmmmm could be. Good luck with your choice.

I thought the "muscle" or power comes from the motor... not the type of muffler

DavidNC, How did you like the Dynomax #19388? I am thinking about ordering it myself. Looking for better flow, not too loud, no drone and some extra HP or MPG is nice too.

One of the nice things is that there is a trial period to decide if the exhaust is to my liking. If not, I can return it.

Also, the Dynomax muffler was listed as a top flowing muffler.

I'll give a review in a few weeks, after the beach trip.

My cherry bomb extreme is quiet on the highway and loud when you want it to be and no drone. Its my muffler of choice.

Mufflers are for girls! Just route some pipes directly from your manifolds and go right out the top of your hood!

But seriously, I am definitely getting the 22" mag after the reviews I've heard so far about sound issues.

I had a Flowmaster on my old Dakota and it was really annoying after a while.

Thank you to everyone who did all the testing for me to find out which muffler is best

This is why I went with flowmaster super 10. Has the muscular flowmaster sound without the restriction of the multi chamber mufflers. I had 14" magnaflow in my hemi jeep. Was about the same noise level, but the flowmaster has a better tone IMO. Not to take anything away from the 14" magnaflow, it's a beastly. Sounding muffler.
