Default Confused about tow rating

I have a Ram 1500 quad cab 4WD with the 8 foot bed and a 360 with 3.92 gears and the tow package. I am looking at renting a skidsteer and don't want to pay the extra $100 to have it delivered so I want to tow it myself. The skidsteer weighs 5808 lbs and the rental place doesn't have a weight for the trailer but I assume it's at least 2000 lbs. That would put me at 7808 lbs. I know the max tow rating for an 02 ram is 8400 lbs, but that's for a regular cab, short bed 2WD. So I looked on dodge's website to view my tow rating and it is only 6850 lbs...does the 4WD and extended cab and bed really affect tow rating that much? I am also confused because it shows the tow rating for the 3.55 axle ratio and 3.92 axle ratio and they are both the same?? So does this mean the extra money for the 3.92 ratio and tow package are worth nothing? That seems far fetched to me. Here is the link to the dodge page I went to for the tow rating so you can see for yourself: http://www.dodge.com/towing/D/vehicl...peed+Automatic

Sorry about the link the hyperlink feature wouldn't work but you can just copy and paste it although I know its a pain. Sorry about the mile long post and thanks in advance for any input
