Default expected power gains from some mods

I'm working on my fathers 98 Ram 1500 with the 318 in it. The motor has 220,000 on it and never been opened until now due to a blown head gasket. I was suprised to size the cylindrrs still had hone marks in them with this high mileage, crank, cam, pistons, bearings look mint.

I've been reading postd about the "keg mod".

What kind of gains would o be looking at as far as power and or mpg by doing the keg mod, trimming the top of the tb, port matching the intake, porting the heads and pitching the clutch fan in favor of an electric fan? Not changing cam or anything, might put a cold air intake on it for....I lnow it won't break any records, but would the combo of ghese mods together make a noticeable difference?

I don't know about the keg mod... But the Shorty headers depening on what ones you get will open up a alot of lower RPM torque and higher rpm HP.... The TB mod is a very nice mod, I cut all the walls off tho.. I find it runs alot better but thats me.... More air going into the motor will deff be a plus and help it run better... Um I keep a stock belt fan in favor of it working when mudding lol... but thats me... best of luck!

Ok 1.5 ports and 3rd beer later....I'm really happy with the 1st port, took alot of material out specially down around the valve stem and blended the bowl up into the runner.

there is a good video of how to port and polish heads on..I think horsepower tv's website? its actually really good info and he has a good technique to figure out how much you can open the ports up. If you wanna check it out you can probley type into google port and polish heads horsepower tv and I bet it will pop up. If I ever decide to tear my heads out and port and polish em for 20-30 more horses thats the video I would follow lol good luck to ya man

I will tell you I was kind of scared on this one, 220,000 miles and never opened up....the exhaust bolts that were supposed to be 1/2" bolts were rusted down to 12mm and a few were down to 11mm lol. LOTS of crud cakes all inside the motor, but all the bolt came right out (I was shocked) i did break one exhaust bolt, but that was it.

I went into the intske and cut the center out under the tb, port matched the gaskets, cut the runners down and opened up the injector holes.

On the heads I port matched the intake runners, and did a lot of work on the exhsust side by opening the runners up, blended the bowls, and knife edged the valve guides.

I've mainly worked on the newer GM ls series engines and untill now forgot how much longer it takes to port iron heads lol the GM aluminum heads grind so nice and quick, snd are alot lighter than these Magnum heads lol just about threw my back out when i stretched across the motor to grab snd pull the 1st head out.

I'm pretty happy with the way the intake, tb, 1st head turned out, now im working on the 2nd head and hoping to be ready to reassemble by lunch
