Default Anybody have desktop dyno?

I'm wondering if anybody has this program and would be willing to fool around with it a little for me....I'm trying to plan out how I'll build my truck. Now I'm not going after the fastest 4.7L ever, but I'm trying to build a quick 4.7L with basically bolt on's, tune, etc....while still keeping the truck streetable and reliable... I currently have a drop in airaid filter, modular intake tube, and superchips. My trucks future includes 4.11 gears (currently 3.55) and an LSD, APS Precision torque converter, shortie headers (gave up on longtubes as it would be too $$$ and time consuming), and a basic cat back exhaust with h or x pipe and straight through mufflers, planning on making my own ram air scoop to fee the stock airbox. That's all I have for now, I'm hoping that'd get me close to 400 peak hp, and a good amount to the ground...hoping to get into the 14's with same mpg and reliability. Other things I'm thinking of are 180 tstat and mech fan delete...Anybody that could give me an idea of what I'd be looking at with the converter and other things...? I don't know how much those programs go into detail...

Oh and Id run a dedicated set of wheels/tires with small diameter for the track, but making sure they were big enough to keep me out of OD on the track...

Guess not? lol...I used to have it but can't find the cd to put on my computer... doh! I also had a dragstrip program with it that would tell you your 1/4 miles time....

Anyway, I spoke with a guy from APS yesterday for about 30 minutes about their converters. He was really nice, helpful, and really seemed to enjoy talking to me about cars rather than trying to sell me something. He won my business. Anyway he said they custom make their converters for your application, and not only claims to be better than the competition, but explained to me why they are better in great detail, and says I'll pick up 80ftlb of torque off idle, get 1 to 2mpg better, and can tow in OD. Also it would be a 2400rpm stall. He went on to explain many things that I don't really understand about billet pistons, carbon clutch, rollerized bearings, etc.....that improve overall efficiency.... Also says they give a 2 year warranty, only condition is you have to run fluid in the converter lol, so if it brakes on the strip, or while mudding, they replace it, as long as it has trans fluid in it... I'll be buying this in a month or two and posting how it goes...this will probably be the best thing I'll ever do for this truck performance wise...

Well after making this thread I found the install file I had for the desktop dyno (2003 version) and desktop dragstrip also. Just throwing this out there but if anyone wants me to run different setups in the program I will for you, might take a day or so to get back to you but I'd be happy to do it. The program takes alot of info so if you want send me what you'd like to know and I'll follow up with any additional info I need. It is remarkably accurate, I searched on google all the info for my friends ls1 camaro, and it was within 5%. I also input the info from the ford I built and it was again only a few % off.

Wow! I didn't know they still made desktop dyno. I used to have an old floppy disk version that can't even be installed on any modern pc.

lol yeah and 2003 is pretty old, I don't even know where I got it. It is remarkably accurate though. It's way over my head, but it pretty much all comes down to volumetric efficiency, it's incredible, it's all just math...

I think they do still make newer versions.

I've been looking into them more, and I have shifted my interest to the edge converters. They seem to sell more (have more results to feed off of), they don't want your core, and they are roughly the same price. They seem like comparable units, but the edge will also give me a slightly higher stall. Both companies seemed good, but I think Edge has the edge (sorry couldn't help it...)

Will let you know how it goes when I get it, I keep hoping it'll be a few months at most, but with all these bills and student loan payments who knows....
