Default How do i add a 4 channel amp to the BASE 130 6 speaker system?

I've searched for literally two days and can't get an answer. I want to add a 4 channel amp to drive my aftermarket speakers. I will have the Mediacenter 130 Base system with 6 speakers.

I was thinking about getting the Pac Audio, but on their site it says the adapter is ONLY for premium trucks with the factory amp. Is this true? If it is what is the best way for me to keep my stock radio and drive a 4 channel amp? Thanks!

You have a factory amp as well. All 4th gens do. Yours is just not the Alpine...

So I can use the Pac Audio adapter the same as those with Alpines? You absolutely positive? The Pac Audio guy told me it wouldn't work but he also thought I didn't have an amp. I need to be 100% sure cause I can't afford to waste $100 buying the Pac.

Yes, that is what you will use. The PacAudio adapter will allow the new amp to interface with your stock harness and help route a digital signal from your existing amp to the new amp.

Not to hijack but to clarify for myself and maybe OP:

  • All newer models (09+) have factory amps
  • The Premium system have "alpine" amps
  • The factory head unit sends an unfiltered signal to the amp
  • The amp filters the signal to each speaker, like a crossover ie) the doors only get lows, the dash only gets highs, etc.
  • The pac audio (CHY 23?) will send the unfiltered signal from the factory HU high level speaker outputs, and convert them to RCA to feed your aftermarket amp.
Are the above statements correct?

Hate to bump an old thread but why make a new thread with the same questions.

the title of the thread had my exact same question. Although all the research i've done indicates that my 2011 QC has the filter amp, it should also be located under the drivers side dash above the e-brake cable. I looked under there and didn't see it. Another thread had a picture showing the Alpine amp actually right beside the steering column. I'm going to have to recheck and see. Anyone got a picture of the non Alpine amp? Is it in the exact same place?

I too was at the audio dealer yesterday and he himself was also fairly certain that there wasn't a factory amp. I mentioned that i was here on the forums that you guys have no reason to say otherwise and wouldn't mention the need for the PACaudio adaptor out of your own self interest. So I ordered it anyway and the dealer said i could return it in the event that i didn't need it.

ok I did see under the heater box there was something there. I pulled the cover off and sure enough, you can see the colored wires coresponding to the different speakers. I'm assuming that's it.
