Default New exhaust setup and top end bog...

Hey guys! Pictures will be coming soon in another thread....

OK, I went to my local shop yesterday to get a Magnaflow muffler and Y pipe installed. The dude convinced me that the best bang for the buck would be a conversion to true duals. That was a little more than I wanted to spend, so I ended up with this configuration:

They cut off the pipes just after the cats on each side, then welded pipe from each cat back to a dual 2.5" in, single 3" out 14" magnalow (12198). I was concerned about adequate scavenging, but he showed me how the muffler acts as a crossover (?). The pipe is dumped just before the rear axle. Stock resonators both removed. $270.00 installed.

The truck sounds really nice now. Moderately loud, but can be easily covered in the cab with a little radio volume. No drone!!!

Here's the rub. After getting home I noticed that when revved the truck seems to bog in the higher RPM range. Could it be the ECU needs to relearn the proper curve to go with this exhaust? Could this be a faulty approach to routing the exhaust (no y pipe)?

I did install a new CAI that evening (despite the issues), but it did not seem to effect the bog. I do have a DSP in the mail, so perhaps that can be used to diagnose or rectify the problem...

Sorry this is so verbose, but I'm buzzing on my morning java ATM!

That is a great setup....Chefred112 runs that on his 12 second quad cab. Pull the negative cable off of the battery for 30 minutes to reset the computer and it will re-learn the new A/F ratio...should be much better after that!

Ok guys, I'm back with good news! After disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes the truck runs MUCH better! Top end bog is gone, but it bounces off the governor pretty rapidly. I think the low redline may be a small part of what feels weird to me. I've only had this truck for a week, and I'm still used to a wider power band.

916Timmy, I very much appreciate your helpful reply! I look forward to returning the favor some day.

were you revving it in Park or Neutral? If so, Dodge has a cutoff programmed in somewhere around 4000 RPM.

my setup is the same way..just a lil bigger...and chevy killer is right, to protect the motor, there is a governor in park/neutral at 4k rpms, with a diablo you can increase it..

Yes, I was revving in in park....that would explain the narrow power band, LOL! This stuff is a lot of fun, but a bit nerve racking considering I don't really know what the hell I'm doing.

I will say that after driving the thing quite a bit more yesterday after my last posts that I do have drone. It's more noticeable at moderate speeds (35-50) than at highway speeds. When I'm at 65-70 mph and it kicks in it is quite tolerable (even pleasant?), but on secondary roads it sounds a lil' poopie....especially right at the speed where you'd begin to benefit from having your overdrive turned on.

I can't really tell if there's much difference in the power. In fact, it seems a bit sluggish in certain areas of the power band. I kinda wish I had waited until I had this 100% sorted before putting on the CAI.....DSP should be here in a few days. I can't wait to see how much trouble I can get in to with that!

Fast Freddy, for what it's worth, I was thinking of your setup when I agreed to have mine configured this way. I remembered reading many posts regarding your BAD AZZ truck. Props!
