Default broken oil dipstick tube

I have been working on my truck and making great progress so far and i just got around to buying a new dipstick tube to replace the stick sticking out of the engine (hill billies). When I actually tried to put it in i notice that it didn't fit, so i look down and notice the old oil dipstick tube is broken off a little past flush. My question is how the hell do i get it out without having to drive it down and drop the oil pan? Can i just cut the new tube so it slides inside where the old one broke? If i do have to drop the oil pan is it hard to do in this truck?

I would try to extract the broken piece. Try a pair of needlenose pliers, put them in the hole, expand the tips by pulling the handle open, then with a back and forth motion try to spin it loose.

Good luck and Welcome To The Forum!

Had this happen to me once. I used a very sharp awl to get between the block and the broken tube piece to bend it out enough to get a pair of needle nose pliers in there. It took about 15 minutes, mainly because it isn't the easiest place to work, but perseverance proved to be the cure.

I found a solution to the dipstick problem, I cut the new tube to be smaller than the old tube and it made a pretty good fit. All in all problem solved.

Some long hemestats might get in there deeper and get a better grip.

its ok my fix is holding really well like its stock (except for the marks on top from the hammer). but anyway i am curious now if my truck is a 318 or a 360 since it is not the original block.
