That doesn't make sense. When I had Fords, if there was a PCM flash available they automatically did it every time the van (E350) was in the shop. Even being in for an oil change or tire rotation has gotten me flashed PCMs in the past.

FYI. I just did a check with my dealer, and the RRTs do apply to my vehicle. He suggested holding off until my first oil change and getting it done then.

What I will do is, when I take it in (yes, I will have them do the 1st oil change), I will also see if they can check and flash my system as well.

Default failed flash update

After reading this forum I took my 2011 sport in today to have the computer looked at and see if any flash updates were available. After having the truck 4 hours the Dodge service center called back and no updates were available at this time. what code numbers did everyone use to get the new flash update? because more horsepower and better gas mileage are something I definitely want.

i got mine flashed yesterday but, i don't know if its the same one. i have a big horn and the updates for mine was for the transmission shift points and the key fob problem.

the transmission felt like it would down shift to soon around 40-45 mph. that now is fixed and i don't feel the vibration in the gas pedel any more.

The main reason why the flash are not done automatically when you bring your truck in is because it can alter other things that the customer likes. Exemple on an old ram 1500 with the 360 engine there was a flash for pinking issue, so you take a 1500 that you use to haul a fifthwheel wow the 360 isnt the greatest power plant but its not so bad well do the flash to correct the pinking the client doesnt complain about and is not present on that particular vehicule and now its the worst powerplant of all. The flash only retards the ignition to prevent pinking but steal the few hp and torque that was needed.

So long story short if the customer doesnt mind (complain) leave it has it except for safety hazard wish is pretty rare for a flash.

i had an update done RRT 11-073 during an oil change and was hesitant. now i wish i never had it done. I do not notice any performance improvement or mileage improvement.
Idk if the update you are talking about was done too.
here is what i do notice now. during 30-40mph under very light throttle the engine is now a gear to high and the engine will lug a little. you know like if your driving a manual and accidently shifted it into 4th instead of 2nd and gave it a little gas. you just feel the vibration because the rpms are way to low.

a lot of the time now under very light throttle the engine is around 1100-1200 rpm at 30-40 mph. if i give it a tiny bit of gas i feel the vibration as the engine just doesnt have the rev's and the load is too much. a little more gas and it downshifts and its fine.

never dealt with this before. personally i find it annoying and wish the update was never done.

Thumbs up

I had the PCM flash update done last week and I am noticing a HUGE difference. Before, my 2011 Jeep GC 5.7L was very sluggish esp on the highway, the transmission was shuddering around 30-50 (possibly eco mode toggling on and off) and it would stall and die sometimes on cold starts in the morning.

Now it is very responsive and drives much smoother when accelerating. I haven't noticed much improvement on mpg, but probably because my foot is heavier since the update.

Service notes label the update as:
Performed update for PCM for driveability.
Improvements op# 181906N4 .2

I'm driving the wifes 2011 4.7L Outdoorsman and had a recall. Took it in and was told I didn't need the 3 driving parts the recall said I did!? but they did a flash. Took me from reading a constant highway 20-21mpg to 17-18. I was/am furious. Took it back to have them check that they did a correct flash, anything. Am only told they can't go back and they wouldn't do anything without a warning light. They pointed out I showed 19 - which hasn't shown since - and that hand calculates constantly at 16.7 driving 55-68, 40 highway miles, twice a day. IF I can find no ethanol it'll jump to calculated 17.4. It's obviously a bad or wrong flash. 3.92 rearend but it DID show good to about 4,000 miles. Since then and at 8,000 I still just get 16.7 or so. Wish we could get a flash number and details rather than all this EPA/DODGE secrecy. ed
