Post Ram air?

So i have been debating this one for a while and i'm still on the fence on if its worth it or not, does anyone have or know if there is actually a performance benefit when it comes to the functional hoods? (this one puts it into a cold air intake box) Do you have to do anything else to make your engine ready for the additional air? Or does it simply come down to a look thing...since from what i have read the ram has a good intake system in it already.

I put a functional hood scoop on my last truck, Nissan Titan, and gained 3 tenths on my 0.60 time per my Gtech.

I don't have one, but i could see it scooping up large amounts of air. Just a CAI alone helps and most of them use the stock scoop area, each one is a little different.

I don't think the investment in a functional hood is going to give you your money's worth and with an open airbox like that the likely hood of you scooping up water that gets on the hood is higher.

I would rather add a pipe down to the bumper from my air box and have it suck in the cooler air lower to the roadway. I am sure this would give you equal the benefits at almost no cost minus the tubing. Plus then you can add a bypass valve, that cuts off the tubing when a large amount of water rushes in preventing potential hydro locking.

Just a thought. The hood does look cool however.

not saying the pipe down to the lower part of the truck is a bad idea, but think about how much heat comes off the road on a warm sunny day. A good baffle in the hood scoop might help with the water. both are sound like they would work.

Also, how hot it is under the hood of the truck and the intake, any water that gets in there should evaporate. I dont forsee any issues unless you dump a gallon of water into the intake. From my personal experience, having a ram air hood that was open to rain, i havent had any issues before with hydrolock. It looks to be a nicely made hood but i would wanna see different pictures before i bought. Someone buy it and post pics lol

I have a functional ramair hood with a APM ramair system and have had no issues with water in the engine. I have noticed a considerable increase in power (Ass Dyno ) and the sound that it makes when you put your foot into it is amazing..I growls!!
Here is the hood I have, an old fashion 440 six-pack hood.

And here is the APM ram air system.

I like how yours dumps the air straight down. The other one seems to channel it and dump it to a filter which then goes back to the engine. Almost seems counter productive.

I agree, defeats the purpose if the air is route all over the place before getting to the TB. This system works really well.
