What are these running as far as price goes and how often do you have to empty it?

I got mine from speedlogix, around $110. I got the braided lines so that raised the price a little, make sure you get the z-bracket. Empty it every couple thousand miles, best to get in the habit of doing it when you change your oil.

You guys must be made of money. I wasn't going to spend over $100 on a catch can, so I made my own. Looks almost like the pic in post #1, and only cost me about $10 using regular household items.

Haha, fear not, I do not boast about something I didn't do. OK, I'll include a few pics and tell you what I did. I did a bit of research first and gathered the best ideas I could find and tried to incorporate it into my design. At first I tried using a compressor water/oil separator, but I found that didn't work so well. Since those are made to hold pressure, they it didn't hold suction so well, so once I found it was leaking air I scrapped that idea. So next I decided to build one myself. I looked around the house and being a DIY person, I keep all my extra left over stuff. So I dug up some old ABS pipe, left over epoxy, old screen mesh, old piece of vinyl trim and put it all together. The only parts I had to purchase where the hoses, the fittings, and two end caps, all total less than $10. Now this design fits my 97, but all you need are different fittings, hoses and a bracket to suit any year vehicle. So the crux of it is I used the 1&1/2" ABS pipe as the housing, and the vinyl trim piece as a divider. This way the air has to travel around the divider to get to the other side. Then I used the screen mesh to grab the large oil particles out of the air. At the bottom I made a hole to act as the drain. Then I painted it all black and the rest is history. If there is anything I missed, just let me know.

I'm building another one for my Mustang right now and that one will use larger fittings and hoses.

Very interesting.... My question is how long have you been running this and what part of the country do you live in? I can't imagine that PVC and glue are going to hold up that long where it is 120 degrees through the summer and adding 200 degree vapors and oil to it.

Nice write up though.

I live in SOCal so it gets pretty hot here, and much more humid than AZ. I have been running it a couple of months and no problems. A couple of things to consider. First, it is not plastic, but ABS pipe which has to hold up to all sorts of plumbing conditions in a house for decades. That is some left over pipe I had from a sink install. If it can hold up for decades in a house, I think it will be OK. Also the vinyl was from some trim I installed around windows over ten years ago. The trim that I installed (this was left over) has stood up to sun, rain and cold with no cracking, fading or chipping, so that I am also confident of, and I didn't use glue, I used epoxy. This stuff bonds like nothing else. If you prep it correctly, good luck breaking it apart. I can't open this can up for nothing. It is all bonded shut permanently. You should also keep in mind that the suction is constantly blowing (or sucking) air through the inside of it so it ventilates it and keeps the heat from really building up. I have touched it after driving for a couple of hours, and while it is warm, it is not scalding hot. I can grab it without having to pull back. I have opened it up a couple of times to make sure that it is catching oil, and that the drain is big enough for the oil to flow out.
