Default 5.2l performing badly

Hey Guys,
I just signed on to the forum after reading and searching some posts. I just bought a 1999 Dodge Ram 4x4, 5.2l, manual, 125,000 miles. It performs well around down but when she hits 3000 rpms it bogs down, like it has a governor on it?. Driving on the highway she barely holds 70mph!

After studying the forums, I figured it may be a clogged catalytic converter and/or the intake plenum leak much referred to here. So I removed the front O2 sensor to "bypass" the cat, and now she misses and stumbles until she hits 3000 rpms and then runs better.

Before I replace the cat and do the intake(Hughes) repair I wanted to make sure I'm on track.

And help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for all the tips. I decided to take her to a Dodge dealer for diagnosis...only $68.00 before I throw parts at the truck.. They confirmed plugged Cat and intake plenum leak. Wanted 1800.00 to fix it. I ordered Hughes kit and new cat, muffler and pipes, Dist cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires, etc for a lot less. I will tackle this job and report back. I understand I need to "reset" the computer when I'm done, which I assume means just disconnect the battery??
