Default Anyone have the ez-down tailgate things?

These seem like a good idea since the tailgate is pretty heavy when you have your hands full.. Does anyone have these? They are a mopar part and cost about $80 but I am sure they are cheaper at other places.. If you have some post a pic or maybe a video of them working..

got mine at a local auto parts store made by dee-zee. install took about 15min and works like a charm just pop the latch and let er go it glides down/open. sorry no pic. but if you find yourself opening your tailgate with your hands full this is a must have option imo

Gotta watch out when buying these. Some work and some "barely" work. I got one that barely works. The tailgate only comes down slightly slower.

I worry about them scratching the paint beside where they are mounted. It just seems like they will rub the inside part of the tailgate/truck when they are extending or retracting.. I saw a video on youtube of 2 guys installing them and theirs had something they has to heat shrink on it for some reason. It was one of those videos with no talking or words, just tacky music and 2 nerdy guys working in slow motion trying to make every thing look simple.

Here is that video BTW

My '08 Toyota Tundra had something like that, except you couldn't see it, it was internal. I really think all trucks should have it standard. I think all Tundra's come standard with it. It is a big adjustment coming from a truck that had it for 3 years to one that doesn't.

I have this exact one. Picked it up at OReilly's for like $20 on sale. Installs pretty easy, works great.

Buddy of mine has it on his truck. He loves it, to me it is a little annoying when you just want to load something and get on your way, but it works as advertised. With small kids, I think this would be a great investment, just in case they tried to open the tailgate when no one was around.

Paid $50.00 from the dealership. Had the Mopar name on the package but the Dee Zee name on the product. So far I love it. It was actually the wife's request, as stated above as a protection from banging kids in the head.

It is slow enough that it won't slam but now so slow that it seems to take a long time. Bonus is if you try and catch it there isn't much effort needed to catch or hold it. That is probably the best way it protects the kids as I know I can just use one hand or an elbow or whatever if needed.
