Gutting the cat does NOT rob power, as long as your exhaust is running all the way to the rear of the truck like it was factory. i gutted my cat and put a flowmaster on, better sound better performance, but only gutted it because it was falling apart anyway. i have no 02 sensors hooked up and no cat. the truck does not smell horrible, there is a noticeable difference in the smell of the truck but its not bad. anyway with the gutting the cat its not going to affect your performance if not make it better. It is going to sound like rocks in a tin can but its better than a clogged or bad one.

My truck has 268,000 miles on it and a gutted cat and its been like that for 100,000 miles and hasnt hurted anything.

anyway i found the best way to gut the cat is cut the pipe after the cat and leave some room to put an adapter in and put a couple of clamps on and unbolt the y-pipe with the cat on it and punch it out that way.

Good luck on what you decide to go with.

I've heard from 4 different muffler shops, 2 dodge dealers, and Autozone, napa, advance auto, and they said it would drop gas mileage. I didn't believe them but it drop my mpg

Every time that I have done that I took a grinder with cut off wheel and cut 3 sides of a square hole (I usually made them about 3"x3" or 4"x4")and pulled the metal back. Then took a big screwdriver or bar and mushed the insides out. I say mushed because the stuff inside is like a honey come and when you smash it it turns into a powdery dust. It takes a little time to get it all out. I didn't worry about the fine stuff I had glass packs on and the fine stuff just blew right out the tail pipe. Then bend the metal back and weld. I have a wire feed welder that I used which made it really easy. Yes the vehicle ran a lot better, amazing how much better they run with out a plugged cat!! Good luck with it!
