Default squeaking noise rear wheel

Ok I have an 06 2500, gas
4x4

I have a squeaking noise coming from my drives side rear wheel
it is very loud when you first start rolling the truck, get louder as you apply gas to move the truck, but after 20 mph goes away, like a switch is turned off

and its a loty louder in reverse than drive!, and will make the noise just rolling, in Neutral too!
any ideas??

Look at the rear brake before you start, does the disk have a little rust? In my area the humidity is so high in the summer the disks often rust overnight. On my '06 I had a squeal until the oxidation rubbed off after the first 10-15 minutes of driving.

It may be surface rust on the rotors...that's normal and under light braking you eventually remove it with the pads.

But, in reading your post through again, you didn't say it occurs when you are braking...is it a constant squeal even though you aren't braking? Do you use your emergency brake when parked at home overnight?

I get the noise without the brakes, just it rolling, and it comes back all the time at slow speeds, so surface rust it not the issue
put new pads on about 15,000 miles(hawk performance pads, rotors were like 75%)

I get this noise a lot louder as the truck sits even after just a few minutes being parked
as i drive past 20 mph, the sound just stops, can hear it actually stop
then comes back as you slow, but not as loud as when you first start out
park it, let it sit, and pull out(make it roll) and there its back to loud again!
I can see no visual problems, and its only coming from the drivers side rear wheel
I opulled the wheel off, and all seems good, and i swapped tires(rotated to the front) and still there
no heavy brake dust and rotor and pads are looking good, so??

I'd go a bit deeper then. Make sure your ebrake isn't dragging, that your pads are secure in your caliper and the brake isn't dragging.

Then, moving on past the brakes, check your axle bearing and seals on that side.

I haven't had to change out any wheel bearings on my truck yet but I know I will eventually.

I have not read any repeatable issues with the bearings on our generation truck.

everyone I know tells me I should change both sides
whats your opinion
only one side seems to have issues
but things tend to go close to each other
?

They both have the same mileage on them. I'd do both of them at the same time.

I do the same thing with bulbs on a vehicle. One tail light bulb goes out, I replace 'em all. That way I don't get to repeat myself later...LOL

I'm kinda teh same way
I like to prevent probelms when i can
guess i will change both side at the same time, easier to remember that way too, when thinbgs were done, so you don't forget which side you did when!
