Exclamation 4.7 dipstick wrong?

i am wondering if my dipstick is wrong on 02,4.7. when i change oil the oil level seems to be way above the full mark. and it always goes more miles before i need to add oil. (220,000 miles on clock). i go about 1500 miles til i need to add half qt. but after that i only get 500 miles to the half mark.
anybody ever heard of this?

From what I understand the recommended capacities are not exact, so if it says 5 qts it may be 4.5... When you fill it go by the dipstick. When I do any fluid changes I go about a qt shy of what it says, then top it off using the dipstick.

I always fill the recommended amount, run the truck for a minute or so and then re check after the same amount of time. This allows to dipstick to read at operating level. If the dip stick shows low after the truck has been sitting, then I top it off, since most of the oil should be in the pan when the engine is cold.

I do the same as well. As gts340 mentioned, it lets the dipstick read at operating level not at a just filled level.

And yes like they said after you fill and check the level, let it run a minute then recheck, the oil filter alone can hold .5 qt. or more.

Before I put my 2" leveling kit on my 02 the dipstick was a spot on when I changed the oil and added the amount of oil listed in the owners manual for an oil and filter change (6 quarts). First oil change after I installed the leveling kit, I put the same amount of oil that I always did and it marked higher on the dipstick then before. I attributed this to the level and for 15,000 miles now just put the same amount I always have.
