Default Trailer Hitch question....

Hello all.. When I bought my 2011 it didn't come with a trailer hitch, however it's the HEMI so it has the transmission cooling, plus wiring and the round tube under the bumper which almost forms a hitch. Anyway, part of the deal was the dealer buying me the MOPAR bolt on receiver hitch which was put on today. There is a large bolt that is put through the bumper hole that appears to mostly hold the hitch on, plus the two that bolt into the tube. After the main bolt is put on you have to replace the flat black cap with a high rise style cap to cover the bolt head and washer..This looks absolutely stupid I must say, and I notice on the trucks that come from the factory with the hitch already do not have this fugly cap. Any ideas as to what I can do to put the flat cap back on, yet still have a trailer hitch? Thanks for all the help..

I wish mine did'nt come with a hitch, my other trucks I ordered with no hitch the put on my own Titan hitch...If I were you thats what I would have done, I agree the Mopar crap is fugly.

My 2500 is going to be ordered without a hitch if possible.

How much are you planning on towing?? I would have made them put on the class IV hitch.

I agree with that ^^^^ plus tell the dealer that the hitch installed, with the cap bulge on the step area of the bumper, is a safety hazard.

Then tell them you want a hitch that does not create such a hazard and point them towards the other trucks on the lot that have a hitch but no hump.

i have the class iv hitch and it is flush with the bumper.. i was asking about towing because the mopar "bolt on " will only allow up to 3k towing. and thats if you get the best one. thats about what my pop up weighs.

putting that on a truck no offense, is like wiping before you poop it just don't make sense to me.. sorry...

Juice 420, which hitch do you have?

Thanks for the replys guys, much appreciated. Actually I didn't know that MOPAR made a different hitch. I assumed that because most of the "Hitch" was already there via the tube that's under/behind the bumper, all it needed was the bolt on piece. So your right, I should get the class IV regardless of how much I am towing due to the fact that it simply looks better. Is the Class IV an entire piece that replaces the tube thats already there? Thanks again guys, once I find the right part I'm sure the dealer will make right, plus it helps I know the general manager...

I have a Curt class III hitch and it is the EXACT same hitch (including the Curt label on the the hitch) that was on turcks on my dealer's lot. I don't know if they came like that or if the dealer is putting them on, but the bolt does NOT stick up and it uses the old flush mounted cap. The only hitches that i have seen on these trucks are rated for at least 5k lbs. I don't know what hitch is out there that would be rated for only 3k. The bumper with a ball only is even rated for 5k according to the markings on the bumper itself.

I will check on the Curt hitch, thanks for the tip.. Yeah I agree to the hitch tow rating. Really if you look at it the bolt on basically locks into a hitch that's already there which is the same thing that hooks to the bumper. It's as stout as any hitch you would add, and I feel comfortable towing my boat and other toys. It's just the stupid look of the bump to cover the bolt, what was Fiat thinking...

The hitch that mopar sells is class 4 not 3. http://dodgeparts.mopar.com/dodge/ram-1500-parts.html . Part #82211226AB
