Ah..this is very discouraging.. these trucks sure are a lot slower than I thought. I saw a time slip of a stock R/T running a 13.7!

The reason a supercharger would help is that even with a crappy launch, I got nearly 500 hp at the crank to give a huge edge after 20 MPH

500HP at the Crank will BREAK the stock Transmission LOL!
You need to spend another $2k to get a bullet proof tranny
....so Budget for $10k "if" you really want to go down that road

SPEEDFREAK has the Fastest 4G on Ramforumz at about 13.5x , with his 2010 R/T
Mods: k&N CAI, 3 1/2" 90 on CAI at TB, 85mm BBK TB,denso sp,180stat,syn oileng & rear gr,Catchcan, Addco sway bars f&r
1 3/4"amer rac hders high flowcats, 2 1/2" H pipe dul 2 1/2" piping, Diablo CT, Bilstin, Mcdrop 2/4,1deg cam 295/45-20bfgkdw,efan.

autobred's 10' R/T is right around the same, at 13.59
Mod's: KnN drop in filter,OEM intake tube swap, Magnaflow 22" muffler, Jet 180 stat, 275/55/17 General UHP(1.86 60'), MC 2/4 drop kit,
Diablo CMR tuned ARRINGTON X-Series vvt cam, American Racing 1 7/8" headers.

13.758 for a stock R/T is the exception, not the rule. Perfect DA conditions maybe will get you there (cool weather, low humidity, low elevation) maybe even with a tail wind,
If there's only a single stock R/T with a single 13.758 slip posted you have to realize that's certainly not going to guaranty all R/T's the same numbers.
Sure 13.7 is fast for stock but I bet the average R/T is lucky to even break into the 13's. There was a bone stock R/T at our track running 14.8-14.9's at 2500'DA.
Larger 20"/22" Wheels look great but are really killing performance.

My fastest run (on 27" DR's) last year was a 14.3 (RCSB 4x4)
a buddies R/T with identical Intake/Exhaust/Tuner as me, ran 14.1 on the same size drag tires. He was at 14.4 on his 20" wheels/33" GY's
This year the only changes I made so far was a catch can and a Diablo Trinity 93 tune and got a 13.8
He hasn't been back with his R/T yet this year, bet he's looking at getting his own DR's and trading his Bully Dog for a Diablo tuner now.

There are a few members on this forum who haven't broken their transmissions yet with a supercharger. In fact, the head warranty guy at my dealership suggested getting a supercharger, and said I'd still have transmission warranty. So...who cares if my tranny blows up?

I'm not gonna be racing my truck at the drag strip very often, me and my friends have fun every now and then out in the country where I live. I'm up against an SS, a Tundra, and a chipped Cummins diesel. So far I'm the slowest! I wish I had bought that mustang instead...

Going through those mod lists makes me think I have a very, very long ways to go...I just thought a supercharger would be an expensive shortcut. And I don't have the mechanical know-how to be working with cams and headers, they sound pretty difficult. So I'm stuck right now!

Did you have a tuner when you ran the 14.3? Also, can you inform me about a catch can please?

I had a Bully Dog GT tuner last year for my 14.3 run, same as Adam's R/T (14.1)
Both running a 91 premium tune (its highest available setting). Airaid intakes, and Magnaflow Exhaust for me (R/T had Flowmaster)
Both Trucks were on 295/45R17 Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag Radials.

The Billet Technology Catch Can catches oil and burn-off by-products headed for your intake via the PCV. Crank Case Pressure Control Valve.
Its a factory design flaw (IMHO) that engineers decided that oil blow by should be re-introduced into the engine to be burnt off.

Trouble is that oil residue in the form of a vapor coats the inside of your intake manifold and also reduces the octane level of your air/fuel mixture,
causes detonation and spark knock. It drips into your combustion chamber where no oil should be....Supposed to be nothing but Air,Fuel and Spark for peak performance and efficiency.

It's a simple 10 minute install with a utility knife, some WD40 and a 1/2 inch socket driver.

My Diablo Dealer is also a CMR Tuner and he wont even tune a new 5.7L Eagle Hemi or a 6.1L SRT8 that doesn't run a Catch Can.

This is how much I caught in just one week and one night at the track

Aha...I'm slowly learning so I guess I should probably purchase a catch can, and a 180 t stat first? And then possibly shorty headers and a 85 mm tb? I wish I had the knowledge it takes to install cams into my truck, but I have a feeling I'd probably mess it up. What do you think my 1/4 mile time would be with headers, 85 mm tb, intake, y pipe, muffler, catch can, and 180 t stat?

blackramhemi has lots of good info there ^^^. APS makes a good converter as well http://www.apsprecision.com/ is their site. The stock converter although marketed as high stall is really just a stock "loose" converter. This is not a good thing, you are losing alot of power to the wheels with that converter. Like said above, if you want to put power to the ground, you're going to have to address the traction issue. A good converter will pick up about 6% power to the wheels, that's about 23hp for the new hemi, that's more than you'll get with a 180tstat, catch can, etc... combined. Also, it will not only help the truck on the track, it will help daily driving as well. You might be able to get away with a sticky set of street tires, but in all reality it'd be best to have a fast street truck, and an even faster track truck with dedicated wheels/tires. I'd recomend the converter as one of the main upgrades, it's a fairly easy install also, maybe half a day to a day for someone who has never done one.

Yes he really has been very kind to take the time to educate a newbie such as myself! Now 23 HP sounds very appealing..I'm just having a hard time deciding what direction to go and what mods take priority over others.

What's your Q/M time like now? You have to establish a base line first.

DA (Density Altitude) plays a huge factor,
Not everyone is playing on the same playing field.
Higher Elevation above sea level, High Heat and High Humidity can drop a Full second off your ET easily!

Ideal is sea level, on a cool dry evening after the suns gone down but the track is still warm and sticky
Cold air is denser with higher oxygen levels in the air = more power (as long as you're not in LA LOL!)

You've got most of the basics covered already, unfortunately the Tuner is really a key to unlocking the hidden potential.
Bringing up your rev's and shift points and advancing your timing to run 93 Octane gas could make the biggest difference.

All you can really do in the meantime after intake/exhaust is the smaller supporting mod's like a Catch Can, Jet 180º Stat, 85mm TB
those are all cheap and simple enough that anyone can do them in minutes with basic hand tools.

I agree that internals like a Cam install can get quite involved and best left to a pro,
(You also cant add a cam without a custom tune to adjust the timing for the lift/duration changes)
...but Headers are a pretty simple R&R after you take the wheel well liners out of the way and access the bolts from the wheel well.

You shouldn't need a blower to beat your buddies,
I'm sure you'll be handing out the beat downs once Diablo cracks the 11's coding.

I'm smoking off the local Furds, 5.7L Tundras and 6.0/6.2LChevy SS Trucks easily
can beat down any newer GT Mustang too (unless its a new 5.0 Coyote, have not lined up with one of those yet).

I haven't even taken my truck to the track yet, it would have been a good idea to do that before modding, but there's no use crying over spilled milk!

I'm really looking forward to buying that tuner, I think that'll be a big help. I'm gonna look into getting that catch can and 180 stat in a week or two. I still hope to get a blower someday...perhaps it would cure my urge to trade my truck for a sports car

As for headers, I need to hear what they sound like before I buy them...if anybody has a video of headers on a hemi, it'd be awesome if you posted them. Especially if it's a 4th gen with aftermarket exhaust!
