A vehicle speed sensor does more than just tell you how fast your going on the speedo. It also relays that speed other components on the truck like, the ABS system if it is equipped with that feature, and the transmission. if the transmission does not receive a good signal, than that could very will be your problem. but before you go and spend money on a new one, check the fluid level via a dipstick if its an automatic, or a fill hole, (if it is a stick shift) on the actual transmission. and as far as buying a new VSS, you should be able to purchase one from your local auto parts store

Default Tran Temp

I had that problem 5 weeks ago when I got my 1500. My transmission fluid was getting too hot, I was told by my mechanic. He changed my tranny fluid and filter and cleaned my front grill and for air flow. That fixed it, go figure.

Is there any chance the previous owner had it rebuilt with a radical shift kit??? Just sayingI had a TH350 built years ago in my racing days that would rattle your teeth when it shifted. I thought it was AWESOME

EDIT: HAHA I guess its a moot point then!!!!
