Default FYI for those getting a mopar backup camera

So, went down to the dealer to get the backup camera hooked up. I already have the mygig/uconnect unit so I figured it would be a simple, quick thing. Ended up being 4 hours. I walk over to the service department and see the tech pull the truck out of the garage. I get my paperwork and keys and go back outside and hop in. Throw the truck in reverse, and I get a big 'ol blank screen. I do this a few times and it is the same, nothing. I walk back in and tell the tech. He walks out, drives it back in and tests it but it is working fine. After us scratching our heads for a minute, I tell the tech to put it in reverse and back out of the garage, which he does. Sure enough as we get outside it shuts off. After a few more minutes head scratching between the tech, his boss, and me, I suggest that I have the auto lights on and as soon as the truck hits daylight and the auto lights go out, the camera is killed. They brush me off saying nah, its hooked up to the bus and not the lights. 2 minutes later, the boss goes over and tests my theory and sure enough I was right. After about 30 minutes of them messing with everything, they finally figure out that the instructions are incorrect. Don't have the exact mistake, but it was something to do with 1 of the connections being wrong, I THINK it was a white with red wire when it should have been a white with blue wire, or the reverse.

Anyway, just thought i would share in the chance that one of you goes in to get the camera installed.

Sounds like it could be a case of using 09-10 instructions/writing diagram on an 11. I ran into a similar issue when doing the electric tailgate lock. They changed the positions of the wire in the large connectors on the tpcm, but the old instructions are still in the kits, which don't mention that the writing changed for 2011, because it hadn't yet when they were produced.

You know that the wire colors aren't what they said they should be, but generally the colored wire you are looking for is now in the OTHER big connector, so you don't even see it. So you assume same pin, different color wire, which then doesn't work. The NEW instructions are PDF on the Mopar E-Store Item listings. It sucks and is frustrating!

I am about 90% sure I saw and overheard the guy going into an office in the sales department to print out the instructions, and they even made a comment about how big the document was.

When I bought the truck there wasn't one on the lot with the camera, so a condition of sale was they add one. The tacked on $300 (100 more than the factory option, but i was getting a good deal on the truck so let it slide). There was no install fee as per my agreement. Probably a good deal as it took 4 hours plus another hour when they realized there was a problem.

It cost me around $500. Worth every penney when hooking up to trailers.
