Default another wheels and lift noob!

So I got sick and tired of my sport sedan and decided to sell my acura TL-S for a used Ram 1500 4x4! I knew that I want to lift the truck and change the wheels and tires when I bought the truck as well as doing a full body paint job. This site is a great source of info and so far from reading I've narrowed down from 3 lifts;
BDS 3" (I wish I had the money, but at $1700...it's too steep)
Rough Country with billstein 5100...$700 (at the top of my price range, but sounds like a good option)
Top Gun Customz 3 " with coils and shocks...$500 (good reviews and sounds like a bargain)

I'll call the TGC tomorrow and will decide from there.

Wheels, I've been reading and searching but found myself still a little confused. I know I want 33" with probably a set of 17x9 with an offset that will allow the wheel to sit correctly. I would like to get the bushwacker pocket flares to give it a little extra room but it may not be in the cards since I still have to paint the truck.

My question is what type of wheels to get, really...what brand to stay away from, which ones are considered top notch and which are considered bargain or value brands. I always heard of Mickey Thompson wheels and actually like their classic wheels in black...but they can get pricey.

thanks for the help!
John

i have a set of xd addict 18 inch wheels with 305 65 18 (33.6" tall) rocky mountain ats on my 08 dodge ram, love em. The backspace of the rims is 4.5 and offset is -12mm with a 2 inch daystar lift kit, no rubbing.

KMC wheels are good looking and not super expensive. Lots of styles to choose from.

I have the XD Addicts (18X9, +18mm offset) with some 285/75RX18 Toyo AT's and a 4" lift. With that offset and that width wheel/tire, I have just a bit over an 1" out past the wheelwell.

thanks amchair!

maddog, that looks nice! After reading and seeing all the pics on this site, I think I might go with a 17x8, -12 OS and 4.5"BS wheel with the Nitto Terra grapler 285/70R17. Waiting on a friend to check with his vendors and if he can get the 18x9 wheels for the same cost i can get the 17x8, then I'll go that route but it won't change the overall size of the new wheel and tire. How do you like the Toyo A/T? I am considering them as well. here is a wheel I'm looking at http://mhtwheels.com/wheel.cfm?cat=683

I've run the Toyo AT's on three different trucks and I really like them. They wear well, no worries having to balance them all the time and the wet traction is excellent. It's not an off-road tire by any means but for casual 4 wheeling on some dirt or gravel trails, they do just fine.

I also got a set of Toyo Proxes 4's for my SRT. I really like them.

Good luck with your choices!

thanks! I'm having lots of fun with this truck! I could never justify buying an expensive truck and modding it, but this is turning out to be a lot fun, especially it didn't cost me much to buy the truck! now I just have to decide on the paint job once the fender flares come in...and find a place that doesn't want to charge me $4000! LOL...I laughed when they said starting at $4500!!!!

So I'm not sure if you're already ordered a lift or anything, but I just looked and the BDS 3" kit for your year model is only $560?
Unless you were including install in the prices you listed.
