I can get the specific name when I get home - it can be picked up at your local Lowes/Home Depot - I dont recall off the top of my head what it was. I do know that it was Flat Black plastic paint, I was looking for Krylon Fusion however Lowes does not sell that (I believe auto parts stores might) so I just asked what they had that was comparable.

I did mine about 2 years ago. I used Krylon Fusion, if you get one of their "camo" colors you get a nice flat black. Since the paint is designed for plastic I didn't sand it or anything. Just popped it out and painted it. Only thing to note is that the paint says on the can that it takes 7 days to reach full hardness. I accidentally scraped it with my fingernail after 24 hours and got a chip. Another coat of paint fixed that and I was super careful for 7 days. Now it's going on two years with no issues.

Edit: After removing the trim and before painting I did wipe it down with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils.

Awesome fix. I been thinking of ideas for this forever. Can't stand how blinding that thing is!

Another option is plastidip, which requires less prep work and allows you to go back to the chrome if you ever want to, like if you want to sell it or something. Its what I used:
