I'm heading on a trip north tomorrow evening and I know where I usually start losing channels so I'll let you know once I've checked in to the hotel.
As promised and now that I'm checked in to the hotel Ill advise on my findings.

There is a huge reduction in signal reception with the stubby as others have found. Even before the fm stereo signal started to breakup the radio wasn't able to lock channels when in seek/scan mode.

I don't believe this is reason enough not to perform this mod but if you live in an area that can be affected by seriously bad weather ie. Tornadoes etc.. I wouldn't advise taking off your long whip. The radio still has a place in this world and that is for local news and weather advisories. That being said I plan to keep my antenna and use my satellite radio or listen to mp3s when traveling between cities.

Now there is an fm amplifier which can be wired in to vehicles this may be an option but I am not sure if this little stubby can handle the additional wattage or even if it is tuned to pull the rf properly to begin with.

As I mentioned I was having a hard time scanning for channels but was able to manually tune and the sound was flawless. I have a feeling that the aftermarket gimmick antenna isn't meant to be functional but more of a visual upgrade. I seriously doubt the manufacturers actually test and tune these for viable RF reception.

Love my Sickspeed but that is because I do not use FM at all. Totally sat radio and HDD for me. If you love (or must use) FM, this antenna probably won't make you happy. If not, it looks great and is a super cheap mod.

Agreed 100%!

The reception on the sickspeed is pretty bad, almost unusable but I only ever listen to satellite and my iphone playlists.

Looks good but I don't know if I would want to give up my radio reception. I found one on ebay that looked like the factory antenna but was only 8" tall. Like to know how that one fars with the rest of them reception wise.
