Default 2011 ram initial service questions

I will have my initial service done here in a couple of weeks, and had a couple of questions. I was told that there was 3 recalls that would also be taken care of. K36, software upgrade, and something to do with the mirrors.

1. The dealership told me that they would be using 5w30 oil. I've been reading that 5w20 should be used, because of the MDS. I asked the dealership, and he said that was what was recommended by Dodge. Can anyone tell me if using the 5w30 will be a problem. They said I could buy my own oil, or use theirs. Should I go with synthetic, or dead dinosaur? Its the 3k oil change.

2. What all does the software upgrade do? My truck runs great right now, I just don't want to get it back running worse, or getting worse mileage.

3. Has anyone heard of the recall for the mirrors? I looked in the recalls section on the forum, and didn't see anything on it. Just wondering what it supposedly fixes. I don't have the annoying wind howl that others have seemed to have.

Thanks for any and all info on any of these questions.

Chrysler has specified 5w20 be used since they came out with the Hemi MDS. Hard to believe a DEALER wouldn't know that.

You really ought to read the owners manual, it is obvious that your dealer does not know what he is talking about. Use 5W 20 and buy your own. I changed my dino oil at 500 miles to synthetic. The book says you can go 8000 miles on dino oil. Here is some info if you want to read on synthetic oil.http://www.waynesgarage.com/docs/syn...s.htm:smileup:

Definitely 5w20 as it specifies that in the manual...tell your dealer they're out of the loop

Dealers doesn't know what there talking about or trying to push the 5w30 because they purchase it in bulk containers at a very cheap price.

No idea on the software upgrade. The mirror deal is the puddle lamps seem to stay on too long. There is a k36 recall to do with the rear differential. You need your date of manufacture, ,,,,,search k36 recall here for a lot of info and ask your dealer about it. Where is "over here"?

The mirror is a piece of foam they add to make the drivers mirror stop howling in side the cab, while you are driving down the road

Thanks for the info, I knew about the K36 recall, from reading here on the boards. I wasn't sure about the software or mirror thing though. I guess i'll find out what the software thing is about when I go. Thanks for the mirror info. I guess its something they have to do since its a recall, even though i'm not having any issues. Who knows, maybe this is just "preventive medicine". Thanks for all the replies.
