Default First Tow

Towed for the first time with my new truck this past weekend. Total towing weight was about 14,000 lbs - horse trailer and 3 fat quarter horses. Can't offer much opinion regarding performance going only 55mph. However, I did notice something new (new to me, anyway). When I would be going downhill with a grade about 4% the engine would automatically switch to a lower gear. Is this part of the cruise control or something else towing-related? I thought it was pretty neat keeping me in line like that but wasn't sure why.
My truck before this new one was a 1997 Ford 250 7.3 diesel. I had that truck forever and it didn't do anything fancy like this new Dodge.

It's in the cruise control programing. It will try to slow you down (maintain set speed) when going down hill, downshifting if required.
