Default True Tow Rating?

What is the true tow rating of our trucks? I know it claims 10,450 on the Dodge Ram site but a dealer tech said that is a one time tow if that. Said real rating is around 6,500 lbs. Said anything over would tear up the tranny and rear end plus have a hard time stopping.

I am curious because I have a 9,000 lb boat to tow and don't know if I should attempt it with the Dodge or just use our 2010 F250 4wd from the get go.

My truck is a 2wd with a 3.55 rear end, what is your guys' opinions?

I bought this truck as a daily driver not a tow vehicle, last Dodge was bought as a tow vehicle but was a 3500 CTD. Great for towing but not so much anything else like drive thru etc.

The absolute max of 10450 is with all the right options. 3.55 gears is not one of the "right" options. I wouldn't pull a 9000lb boat with mine if I had a 3/4 or 1 ton available.

So what is my max tow rating? Getting the Ford is no big deal but I thought if possible to use the Dodge I would, guess I will just stick to the jetski's and jetboat with my truck.

Here's a very reliable table that shows tow ratings:

The maximum tow rating for your truck is 10,250lbs. The standard tow rating is 7,300 lbs with a 1570lb payload capacity according to dodges website (QC 4x2 6'4" bed 3.55 gears and hemi)

That is a great link Maddog, thanks alot

Says 8700lbs with the way I am optioned so I guess with low fuel and no gear I could tow in a pinch if needed.

Yeah, I would do it in a pinch but not routinely.

Of course, tow ratings are conservative and you probably have some room on those figures but how much there's no telling.

In the past, tow ratings were determined by calculation and then extensive testing. And they tested until things broke.

Default Most weight towed w/5.7 3.92?

I am looking for some real world insight from someone who has towed some substantial weight with their truck and looking for opinions. Would I be able to easily tow a 9500lb-10300lb boat with this set up on a 4wd?

I had one guy tell me he pulls a 11k+ bobcat daily with his 5.7 but said it was a struggle in his opinion, said the power and gear was there but the actual truck had a hard time with the weight. He was use to Ford SD's so is'nt use to gasser's in the first place and the Ram is what his company added to the fleet instead of newer SD's.
