Default Tint/B Pillar Tape

Got my truck tinted. Matched my factory tint on the front windows and tinted my windshield with 25%. Now on to the B Pillar tape, not sure if I should remove it or keep it on their. Is there any real purpose to this tape?

It is entirely cosmetic. Designed to make the truck look like it is one solid window. The black trucks don't have it. My dealer advised me to remove it, as some of the vehicles with some age, now look awful as it wrinkles and cracks. I have seen factory dodge vinyl racing stripes that are 15 years old now and they look awful up close. Old age vinyl is a pain to remove, and if your paint has faded or oxidized at all it will show.

The front is tinted at 25%? That's pretty dark for the front. How bad is vision reduced at night?

I'm at the tint shop right now about to have the sides done at 5% and the front at around 80%. Just enough to block a lot of heat, but not reduce vision.

I took off my pillar tape and love the results and I bet it looks just as good on a dark truck like yours.

Yeah it takes alittle getting used to when driving at night but I wanted it dark because I only matched the factory tint on the sides. It definitely makes the truck a whole lot darker.

My truck is a year old and the vinyl tape is already crinkled at the bottoms. After seeing others that have removed it I think it looks better without it and I will be removing mine as well.

What state are you in? In most states it's not legal to do the front. As for the tape, mine will be coming off soon for the poor aging quality and the better looks without it.

I believe its only legal down to 70% for windshields in North Dakota. Everywhere else it's just down to the AS-1 line or 5-6".

However, it's only a problem in jurisdictions that have tint meters and how bad they need revenue. :P

I had my previous truck metered at 2.3% a couple years ago and was only pulled over once in a county that was really hard up about window tint. I was let off with a courtesy warning though. Perks of being in public safety....

IMO these trucks ALWAYS look better with the B Pillar tape off but as a previous poster stated it can begin to fail after a few years.

I had a '99 dakota that I kept in pristine condition and the ONLY place it ever looked bad was the pillar tape.

It's better to take it down sooner than later, before the rest of the paint begins to change color from sun exposure.

Just for the OPs reference, here is my truck with the windows tinted to match, and the tape removed. Decide for yourself which way you like best.
