Does anyone know the link(s) to any threads that talk about painting this cover?

I realize this is an older post, and maybe this is a dumb question...but what is the purpose of the engine cover? Just dress? It seems like it would trap in a lot of unnecessary engine heat

Yep, it is to just dress up the engine and I guess "Make it look less scary"

Mine was deleted and hung up on the wall in my garage weeks after I bought the truck 7 months ago. In this Texas Heat reaching 105 degrees with 90%+ Humidity having a black truck, with Black Engine covers just causes way to much harm. I was running 5 degree cooler temps after removing it.

Cool...I think it would look better on the wall in the garage myself. My buddy down in Vegas is a mechanic and says to leave it, it protects the paint on the hood from fading...but I don't feel it would be as much of an issue here(if at all) in Reno since Vegas is the temperature of the sun 7 months of the year.
