Stalled it up to about 1500 (anything over that and i will spin off the line), traction control off and shifted it manually to catch 2nd prime

^question about that. Shifting manually alone doesn't let you catch second prime, you have to have tow/haul mode on, right?

no tow/haul mode. You hold the shifter all the way to left and let the truck shift out on its own and you will catch second prime.

That really confused me....then I realized you have a shifter in the center console, mine is on the column. So I have a button (+/-) on the shifter to up and downshift manually. I don't think mine catches 2nd prime without tow/haul on, and if I press it down to 1st, it won't shift out.

Yep, I'm really confused now too..what do you mean hold the shifter all the way left? Wouldn't it be better to turn tow/haul on and let it shift itself?

^ I'm assuming the console shifter has has a bump left downshift, bump right upshift function like many new vehicles have to manually shift. I also don't see how this would be different than tow/haul.

Yep, you're right about bumping the shifter to shift, but that still doesn't explain how he held the shifter all the way left and let it shift by itself. If I did that, my truck would stay in 1st! I have to bump my shifter right every time I wanna go to a higher gear if I start in 1st.

I'm guessing that if you hold it left it won't let the engine over rev and will automatically shift. It's a safety feature. But does that mean if I leave mine in 1 and floor it then even if I don't manually press the button to change gears it will automatically upshift? Probably... But why do that, why not just put it in D?

yes, i have the center console shifter and when you hold it all the way to the left it will shift out on its own when you get to the shift point. If you just leave it in first and not hold it to the left the truck will stay in first gear. Tow haul mode did not help my times.

I would assume that instead of up shifting, it would cut off the fuel as if you hit the speed limiter. Not something I wanna try!
