Default CAI and Tune options - Top two options

This week I will be the proud owner of a 2011 Ram Black 1500 Crew Cab Sport 4x4. Will be in either Wednesday or Thursday.....

Im Trading in my silver 07 SRT8 Charger with 52k miles on it. I really enjoyed the Charger, bought it new, great vehicle and never had one single issue with it. The day I brought it home I already had my CAI, Diablo tuner and dustless brake pads waiting for me. I drove straight home and installed those mods day1. Yes, my wife knows Im a lunatic like many of you..

The SRT8 put down 380RWHP and 373RWTQ

Here's my questions

1. What are the TWO best CAI choices?
2. What are the TWO best performance TUNING options?

Dumb question....I have a Diablo tuner for the SRt8 Charger and will return the SRT8 back to its stock tune when I turn it in. Any chance I could get a software upgreade on this tuner for the Ram 1500.....

I doubt it.....Just thought I would ask.

Thx
VinMan

Well, unfortunately a lot of 2011 owners are waiting for DS to put out the Predator and Trinity for that year Ram. As you probably would agree, the wait will be worth it. They also have a new product in the works that sounds very interesting.

So, TWO Tuning options would be - The DS Predator and The DS Trinity.

TWO CAI options - There are soooooo many CAI's out there. Root Beer (Brian) did a good job of comparing CAI's and you can read that info here:

http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=59630

I have an AFE Stage 1 on my truck and love it. I've used open cone filter types, such as the K&N and S&B units, plus closed box units such as the Volant CAI.

So, you have a lot of choices. In my view, most CAI's provide pretty much the same results. Some are better built than others. Flow numbers do not necessarily dictate quality and your engine will only use so much air. Beware of the cheapy ones that will come apart on you and you end up with filter media in your engine!

MADDOG pretty much covered it. You are definitely going to have to wait on the tuner though, unfortunately.

I would say there are two types of CAI...
1. Volant = uses a closed box like the stock setup
2. All the others with open boxes = AFE, AIRAID, K&N and such.

All do what they should. I am getting the Volant because the sound is a tiny bit less and it uses the factory fender duct. To each his own! If not the Volant for me, the AFE would be next!
