I really really dig my Magnaflow single in single out and single exhaust out to the passenger side. Sounds nice and mean, no need for all that extra pipe and weight if its not really actually doing anything. If you were going to run an X pipe and do true duals, it may be worth it, but for what you're going after, go single in, single out.

I have a 2008 Ram 1500 with the 4.7L in it, stock exhaust. I am planning to add an aftermarket exhaust but have heard differing opinions on whether or not this engine should have a dual exhaust or single exhaust if you're moving to aftermarket. A local exhaust shop told me the block was almost to small to push a dual exhaust and it could actually lose horsepower in doing so. However I have read a few threads on here where users have added a dual exhust to their 4.7L. Any thoughts on whether this motor should run a dual or single exhaust? I would prefer to increase my gas mileage if anything, while getting a great sound and an increase in HP as well. I will be adding a cold air intake as well. The exhaust I have been considering is the Flowmaster 50 Series 3". Any suggestions on brand of aftermarket exhuast as well? Thanks in advance for the assistance.

If you're gonna go true duals....keep the piping at 2.25 or less. Bigger piping WILL hurt your performance. the Exhaust needs Velocity on exit for the motor to perform properly. Too big a pipe and you'll end up with NO bottem end torque.

This is correct, however, it is my opinion that 2.25" to 2.5" is optimum....I don't think smaller than 2.25" would be good...

good point. 2.25 off the manifolds all the way back to the muffler than 2.5 tail pipe would be fine. would sound fantastic as well

Yup, this right here. 2.25 from manifold to muffler. If you go much bigger you're DEFINITELY going to be lacking in the low end grunt and will end up cursing us later for it.

I have an 08 with the 4.7. I have a Magnaflow, with 3in, in and 3in out. The only differance is the truck sounds beter with duals. Go with the single. Get a 18 or 24 in muffler.

I personally like to not see the exhaust so I'd just get the single and leave the tip like stock. If you like the look of tips you'd probably like the symmetry of duals with nice tips.
