Default Gas Gauge wire

my gas gauge doesn't work.
so while I was replacing the radio, I stuck my hand behind the dash where the gas gauge is and there are no wire/s hooked to it.
question: what colored wire goes to the gauge?
it looks like the type that was on cigarette lighters. l shaped with ridges on the inside that slipped over the connector.
does anyone know which wire, specifically which color wire hooks up to the gas gauge?
I'm not interested in the sending unit right now because it looks like it is a wire that needs hooked up to the gauge.
Thanx

a guy at the junk yard says one hookup controls everything on the dash and then the computer does the rest. so I guess its the part in the tank. oh well, I'll get around to tearing it apart in the spring probably lol.
