I had almost the entrie day to play with...er...I mean...work on the Ram today!! First let me say that I am very thankful and am very blessed to have a shop with a/c!! I removed the side badges and ran the stripe wheel on the leftover 2 sided tape and washed the entire truck down twice with wax and grease remover and followed that with 2 good coats of wax. Looks much better now. I am still on the fence on the pillar tape so I left that on for now.
Then I moved onto the major project of the day...painting the calipers. This mineral gray truck was just screaming for some red calipers especially after adding the red R/T in the grille. I washed the calipers with wax and grease remover and scuffed them up with a red Scortch brite pad. I washed them down again and prepared for the masking. What a pain!!! I almost think it would have been easier to take them off.
Here they are ready to spray...
And here are the results....
A little over 3 hours total for the prep, mask and spray. Pretty happy with the results. Really hard to get the inside of the calipers painted very well but the part that you see looks good. This is 3 coats of VHT rattle can caliper paint.
While I had the wheels off, I cleaned the inside of the wheels with steeel wool and wax and grease remover and put a couple of coats of wax on them as well. They were really grungy looking already and I hope that the wax will make it a little easier to get the grime and brake dust off of them since the inside shows so much on the Sport wheels.
Here is the result of the day's labor...
I absolutely love this new truck and am well pleased with the mods so far. The debadge is something that I've done to everything I've driven for many years but these Ram's benefit from it So much because of the GIGANTIC emblems that they have. Really cleans it up to have those gone.
I did add the Challenger/Charger Hemi emblems to the side of the hood lump.
I think the red calipers look really good through these wheels!!!
Here's a few more pics.....
I also took some time to detail out the interior. Got some leather conditioner on the seats and some regular gloss protectant on the plastic pieces. Almost a shame to drive it and get it dirty after all of this!!!
I have the hood stripes and a billet bumper grille on order so I'll post some more pics once those are installed.
Thanks for looking. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!
