Default DIY Jr. CAI for under $100 - Guide with pics

Been thinking about making my own kit for a couple weeks now.. got it done yesterday. Cost me ~$75 and $50 of that was from the K&N air filter.

Here's how you do it:



First remove the sensor.


Then loosen these two clamps and remove the tubing.


Next remove this 10mm bolt.


After that bolt is out you can remove the air box, to do this lift UP and then pull it towards the front of the truck.


Here are the parts you will need. 3" tubing (I used PVC pipe with some spray paint made for plastic), 3" rubber coupler, and a 3" 90 degree rubber elbow coupler.


I cut my tubing down to ~8.25 inches, I would say anywhere from that to 9" should be good. I would recommend 8.5"


next you need to drill out a 1/2" - 5/8" hole in the side of the rubber elbow for the sensor. To remove the sensor from the air box just twist and pull.


Should end up with something like this.


Put it all together and this is what you get.. I think for less then $100 its not too bad

Looks good man! It'll def. flow better then that resonator hat. You should notice a bit better throttle response as well

Did You get the rubber couplers from the same place as the PVC tube?

Very nice, good to see people coming up with budget minded ways to help with performance, that are nicely done! This should be quite effective. I am looking to do something similar, but I was planning on bending the pvc instead of using a rubber elbow, one question for you though, do all the couplers fit snug?
