Default Speakers help

I replaced the speakers in my front doors with really expensive nice sounding speakers, but they crack when I have the music to where I can hear it. I don't crank it up. The wiring for the factory speakers had 4 wires harness, and I cut that off cause it wasn't working right, and spliced 2 wires to the speakers to make them work. I think the wires are going to the headunit, and thats why it sounds so bad. Should I get an amp or get a new head unit? My headunit is kind of outdated, but it does have a cd player. Basically I want to know if a new headunit will make a difference or if I need an amp? The speakers I put in are both 100watts each. I have heard these speakers cranked up really loud, and they are crystal clear so I know its not the speakers.

my 94 only had two wires to each speaker? but if the wires are grounded out anywhere it'll sound like shit and crackle. check all your connections even the ones to the back of the head unit. id do that before i got a new head unit, save some money, im not an expert, if this doesnt help you can always ask an expert!

Wires aren't grounded anywhere, I did have the infinity system, but think the amp was ripped out before I bought the truck cause the front speakers didn't work at all except for the tweeters. Now that I rewired them they work. I bought a new head unit yesterday cause the one I bought I got on craigslist dirt cheap, and its kind of older.

First off congrats on your new Dodge! I think you have one of two problems. First one is that you have a wire grounding out in your speaker wires coming from your Head Unit. So I would run through and check all connections, just to be sure. But if you are experiencing problems with both speakers, you have a problem with the amplifier in the Head Unit. Sinve the Infinity amp was taken out, I would run new wires to the doors, just to make sure. It's not very hard, it just might take a little while to route them through all the little nooks and crannies. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me!

Thanks. I saw the ground on the headunit didn't look that good, but still hooked up the new head unit with some new crimps I got cause the older ones I had weren't working right. I did a lot of headunits in the past, and never had issues like this. I did splice in 2 cigarette lighters into the head unit wiring so they are on all the time cause I hate when cigarette lighters go off with the key. I like charging my devices when the truck is off. Usually I only do that to 1 cig lighter, but this truck has 2 so I did both that way so it was too many wires to ground together, and make a good ground, but now its a good ground cause I don't want to take the truck apart again.

Yep...an amp will clean things up for you. It is important that none of your wires are grounded or undersized.
