Cool Greetings from Afghanistan!!!

Hey all, just thought I would give you an update. I am in Southwest Afghanistan. Its EFFING HOT here. We just broke a heat record of 153*F yesterday. Thats gotta be a world record. Its averaging 135-140 here every day. We are in an area about 100 square miles thats flat wide-open desert all around, except the mountains about 60 mi. to the North.

Well Stacy, the trucks are tan for a reason. Painting it DWBP would be, from a tactical standpoint, an EPIC Fail. Its already the biggest target in the convoy... and I am going on (almost daily) route clearance missions, searching for roadside bombs. I am a mechanic first, but the Combat Engineer unit I am in needs Recovery with them, because their missions take place across hundreds of miles, days away from the nearest base. Not a fun job, but the pay is good, the scenery changes, and they let me use explosives.

Don't you worry about me. This ain't my first rodeo. Sadly, combat is almost like an addiction. No bigger adrenaline rush than this!

Photoshop would be cool, for sure. It will allow me to keep myself from being blown to smithereens, also will help me not get in SERIOUS doo-doo for repainting a million+ dollar truck.

The Chew's are amazing. Compared to my last 2 deployments to Iraq, this stuff is like staying in the hilton My first deployment was 28 men to a tent that was 25x50', then later, plywood shacks that we built ourselves. No A/C, no power, no lights, sleeping on cot's and no ballistic protection. We were eating MRE's, drinking whatever bottled water was air-dropped on pallets, we were pissing in PVC pipes sticking out of the ground with one end buried 6 feet down (called piss tubes), shitting in bags and then burning our own feces.

On that same deployment, A mortar round landed near my shack, and the side my cot was on was littered with shrapnel holes. Had I been in my cot at the time it would have been the end of me.

LOL yeah, a mit of a stretch, but with as much bottled water as we carry on board, its not as much of one as you would think.

Here is a secret to get nicely refigerated water in 140+ degrees: Pour a bottle of water over a tube sock and make sure its good and soaked. Put a bottle of water inside it and tie it to your mirror. Drive down the road @ 35mph or more, for 5 minutes. You now have a refidgerated bottle of water .
