Default Newcomer to Dodge

I just recently purchased a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport Quad Cab. I am begining to feel the itch to add some bolt on mods. I would love to get some opinions / suggestions on the mods I am adding to my Christmas wish list.

AFE Stage 2 Cold Air Intake

JBA Shorty Headers

Magnaflow Muffler

Y - Pipe (Nneeds to be less restrictive than the stock one; brand has yet to be determined)

I have been told recently that there isn't a true need to replace the entire exhaust system as it is already 409ss. Is this true? If so, I figure just replacing the muffler will save me ton's of cash, and brownie points with the wife.

I figure I should be able to do all of this for less than $1,000.00 if I shop smartly. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated.

good start...you can probably just swap out the muffler..and Y pipe and maybe remove a resonator... get a programmer while your at it (superchips of diablo)

Nice list, I'd go with the Y pipe, muffler, CAI and a tuner. The rest of the stock exhaust will work as is and keeping it keeps costs down which makes you look good in your wife's eyes.

I appreciate the feedback. There is a video on Hennessey Performance's web site of a Ram 1500 HPE500 and I love the sound that truck puts out. I know that particular truck is supercharged so I can't get the exact same sound. I was thinking that I might come close by adding the parts listed above until I watched some youtube videos of trucks with magnaflow vs. trucks with flowmaster. Now I am thinking of going with a flowmaster muffler instead. I don't want the super mellow low rumble of magnaflow. I really appreciate the loud crisp roar that I a hearing come from the flowmaster.

Here is a link to that video if you care to hear the sounds I am aiming for.

Good list of mods! What's your exhaust configuration now? One muffler and two tailpipes? One muffler one tailpipe?

Definitely replace that Y-pipe. JBA makes some good stuff. Long tubes are a bit better for performance but hard to fit on newer vehicles...no space!

I'm not sure there is a huge difference between the AFE Stage 1 & Stage 2 units from a performance standpoint. I have the Stage 1 and it works great.

Adding a programmer, with the intake and exhaust, will certainly round out the best bang for the buck mods you can make to wake up that HEMI!

Good luck with the mods.

My current exhaust setup is one muffler - two tail pipes. LOL now I am not so sure what brand to go with. After double checking what Hennessey put on their ram 1500 it was a magnaflow exhaust. Geez, what a fix. Maybe with a supercharger it sounds like that. I'm still thinking that with a CAI & headers only, I still might need to go with the flowmaster muffler to achieve the sound I want.

if the flow sound is what you want...do the flow. if your after performance, do any other muffler besides that. I ran flow 50's when I was slower (plus it was too damn loud in the cab)..switched to mags and got faster (and totally quiet in the cab)..

Thank you guys for your feedback. I think I have decided on the magnaflow muffler after doing more research. They have the "straight through" design offering better performance. I will gladly take into consideration any other suggestions.
