Default Cam for the 4.7

hey yall i have a 04 dodge with the 4.7 n im lookin to add more power. what all mods would yall recomend. currently the only thing i have done is strait pipes from the cats back. havent had the truck long but i have had it long enough to kno that i want more power lol

ive heard of people doin a HO cam swap in the durangos has anybody tried it in the rams? or any other cam swap? i am also looking at a cold air intake, TBS, headers, and a chip of some kind. on some of the other posts ive seen people talkin about ECU management systems called hyperpac and also the superchip. whats the difference? n which ones better? i also saw someone talkin bout the gearing but it was on a 4x4 would it be worth it on a 2 whel drive?

thanks

You can do a HO cam swap, there are better options available though. Also might want to look into changing the intake manifold to a 2008 model, a tuner would be much better than a chip. We also have some great recommendations for 4.56 gearing for the 2wd trucks. I hear it will even offer better fuel economy while giving you more oomph when pushing the go pedal.

the lower the ratio/higer the numbers, the more rpms you will turn, resultin in less mpg, not higher

I don't know where you heard it will increase it.

Now if he had 35'' tires, then this might increase mpg when gearing up from stock.
City mileage would be better, but interstate would suffer.

I agree with all them above, but if your looking for speed get a car!! Trucks are heavy, unless you have some extra money to spend! good looking truck you got there though!

I would normally agree with you on that. However, we have a member here who supplies performance parts for 4.7 motors and swears that by putting the engine in it's prime power band, the fuel economy on his truck has actually increased due to the engine not having to work as hard.

Whoops, I have to eat crow on this one. I thought for sure Comp Cams had some available already, but they don't yet. Here is a quote directly from the 4.7 aficionado I mentioned earlier:

They would work real well with the 2008 Intake and a 70MM throttle body.

Just checked Diablosport and a Predator is not available . Superchips has a Cortex and Flashpaq available . Cold air intake , headers , dual exhaust . Don't waste your money on the throttle body spacer .
