Default Best MPG Gains 13.8 mpg to 23.7 MPG!

I hate oil companies and bought my 5th Dodge Ram, this one is a MINT 98 Ram 4x4 1500 with a 5.9L V8. First 2 tanks I got 13.8MPG & I drive it easy & coast when I can since I live in a small town an hour outside of Toronto.

I have always modified every vehicle I have owned cause of the price of fuel here in Canada. The price of fuel is approx $1.25 Canadian on average, there is 3.78 Litres in a US gallon so it is costing me about $4.66 Canadian per gallon which is about $4.40 USD a gallon and it sucks!!!!!!!!

So my 98 Ram with a 5.9L in it got 13.8MPG to start, I brought it home and here is what I changed to get 23.7 MPG, yes, that is 23.7 MPG from a 5.9L!

Cold Air Intake from eBay $118
TBI Spacer from eBay $ 68
E3 Diamond Fire Plugs $ 70
MSD Coil & Adapter $ 145
MSD Plug Wires $ 120
New Tensioner Pully $ 120
New Serpintine Belt $ 40
Synthetic 0W30 Oil Chg $ 60
Synthetic Diff Oil Change $ 70
Synthetic Tranny Oil Chg $ 50
55 PSI in my 285/75/16s $ 00
Superchips Flashpaq 3865 $400
Remove ALL unwanted Lbs $ 00

I also removed the fan from the motor & replaced to with a custom made alum. shroud where I placed 2 10" elec fans with 180* temp module, total price was $190 for this. I measured the shroud and drew a design of the alum shroud I had cut, bent & welded at the local metal shop & I put the fans on & installed it myself. This is way cheaper than the ones available for $500+ online

I also put on Tonneau Cover which has been shown to give better MPG

The last couple things I have to do is install High Grade GMB wheel bearings packed with the best synthetic grease. Topped off with drilled & slotted rotors. Price of this should be about $300

So for approx $2000 you can up your MPG by a huge amount, even if you are using tires bigger than 285's

I am going to try one tank in a week or two and going to HyperMile it & will post what MPG I get, hope to get 30-35MPG!

Anyone else with any other MPG improvements??????????????

Default Injectors

I am thinking of putting new 4 hole Bosch injectors in to replace the one hole Siemens injectors. I don't know if it will give me anymore MPG, I know it should run better and most likely give me a little more HP, but does anyone know if this would improve MPG?

I am thinking it should be giving more HP, a better burn thru atomization so I am thinking it should help MPG, slightly, any thoughts?

Wow not to say I don't believe this or anything, but I don't believe you, lol! That's a 70% increase! ...I'd need proof sorry, that's just a little too much for me to take, lol. Especially the 30+, that's over 100% increase!

Oh and since you asked, I went from about 16-17 avg to about 17-18 avg (almost all city) with the superchips on 91 tune. I think it was better slightly on the 93 tune but I had some pinging. I can get like 22-23mpg on the highway at 65-70mph. 20mpg at 75-80 is piece of cake.

i can believe that. i get 20 to 24 on the highway with a cold air intake, throttle body spacer, and throttle body mod, superchip programmer, msd ignition, msd 8.5mm wires and 180 degree thermostat, and bosch platinum 4 plugs.( i was told these actually kill my mileage, and to go back to a copper plug, but at $50 for the set, they will last for a few miles. where did u get the fans and how did u wire them up? i been really thinking about doing this, but not sure how i could wire it up, so it would kick on at a certain temp. and turn off at a certain temp. any help would be great.
