Default Thinking about lifting my truck - Any ideas or suggestions?!?!

Hello all,

I've been thinking about lifting my truck 3-4" lately... My truck is a maroon 2008 Ram 1500 with the Laramie package.. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what type of suspension lift i should get with a wheel/tire recommendation.... If anyone has pictures or links to their lifted Ram that would be great!

I've never done a suspension lift to any truck before so this is a whole new world to me..

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!!

like really i'm curious why this is so popular, what does it do for you? does it improve the truck somehow? is it just for looks?

If you have to ask why a lift obviously isn't for you...

IMO there's two primary reasons truck owners invest in a lift - looks and functionality. For me, it was both... the stock 4th Gen Rams have the ground clearance of a Prius. The first fall I had mine I discovered that many of my favorite hunting locations were off limits to my "4WD truck" because I couldn't navigate the rutted trails and roads. Plus, the new Rams look more like a truck when they're not squatting on the pavement like a passenger car. If you never take your truck beyond the mall and you're happy with the looks, more power to you. Many of us use the trucks for something besides mall crawling and I personally hate it when I get hung up in dandelion weeds...

Really shouldn't be too difficult to comprehend...

So I've been looking around at lift kits for my Dodge... It appears there's not much available to lift a 1500 4X4.... It seems like I should have a 2500 before I see more types of suspension lift kits available...

I have seen a few kits for my 1500 but they're all 4"...

Anyone have any ideas where I should begin to look?!

Thanks

I put a 4" Rough Country lift on mine, it's a relatively inexpensive but well built kit that suits the "weekend warrior" type of offroaders. If you're going to get into any hardcore wheeling I'd look at something a little more expensive, but there's a number of guys on here running the RC lift who are happy with it. They also make a 6" kit if that's what you're looking for.

You can see some pics of my truck at http://s650.photobucket.com/albums/u...20Dodge%20Ram/

well if you're using it for a real reason that's one thing

i live in CT and see idiots driving around in their lifted 2500 with monster truck tires.....going to high school, going to the mall like you said, going to the bar, etc.... i always thought it came off looking like a "poser" type thing.

but if you guys have real functionality for it than fine, that's why i was asking

I agree... and you can usually look at a truck and tell in 2 minutes if it's a mall crawler or really used off-road. I'm not bothered by the mall crawlers any more than I am by the guys who take a nice looking truck and slam it; to each his own. When I moved to Phoenix I wanted to get a lift on my Taco, so I went to a local 4-wheel shop named Fly-N-High. The VERY first thing they asked me was if I was going to use the truck or just drive it on the streets... the types and quality of the kits out there vary a great deal depending on what you plan on doing with the truck.

As you can imagine, there's lots of ridiculous looking posers cruising the southwest who would break at the first hill they tried to climb...
