Default Battery Draining

I have noticed in the past month since ive had the truck that maybe twice a week the battery will go dead on me, i had no problems with it when went on vacation (over 600km away it was fine for the week) but driving around the city to and from work (within 10km) i run into this problem a couple times a week. Usually i get home from work around 5ish and leave it overnight then the morning it doesnt want to start, i will sit in there for 5 minutes or so and then it will start (sometimes). I have taken it to a auto repair shop and they ran a draw test on it and said there was nothing. They replaced the battery with a bigger one and im still having the same problem. The truck has a compustar alarm, aftermarket LED taillights and it was wired for 8000hids until the ballast fell out. Its also wired for fog lights in the back. Its a 5.9L. The truck is a 96

Sounds like an internal regulator in the altenator is shot, autozone can test it while in the car as well as battery andthe whole charging system with their roll out thingy. Some altenators drain the battery when the regulator goes as well as batteries do develop shorted cells either they be new/used or just old shelf life...

im not sure if all batteries are the same but ours at work(diehard) have a little round sticker on the side of it. its the date ...example 5/11 ....the battery is sellable for a yr after that then it is considered too old .

if an internal regulator in the alternator was shot wouldnt the stop it from charging the battery all together? When i went on vacation i drove my truck up to kamloops (roughly 600km away) and then my truck sat for the week while i was there and it started right up.........or could that just have to do with the fact the battery was only a week old at that point?

Nope, there is a rectifier in it, and if it goes out the current can reverse and drain as if it is grounded. The rectifier only allows the current to travel in one direction, when it goes out the alt can still charge but it will also allow it to drain.
