Default Rain + stock tires = new tires any ideas?

I have had the truck (2007 1500 hemi 2wd stock Goodyears with plenty of tread 20 in rims 2.92 rear end) for a few weeks now. It has been dry most of the time and I thought I had good tires could not spin the tires at all.
Well, went for a trip last weekend it rained and any input from the right foot and I was spinning the tires it was fun when I wanted to do it but merging onto the HWY at 80km and trying to get to 100km and going just side ways was no fun.
So with winter on the way has anyone had any luck with all seasons and a 2wd in the snow? I will be putting sand bags in the bed come fall. Or do I have to buy winter tires and rims? If so what size of rims and tires would get me close to the stock tire size? I'm in Canada and no one stocks the 275/60r20 so I would have better luck with smaller rims and winter tires.
Thanks,
Tan

I had Cooper Discoverer HT + for my '06 2WD and loved the way they helped in the snow. I plan on replacing the stock tires with same soon.

I can't help you with your question but after about 50 straight days of over 100 degrees I just wanted to hear some more about that thing you called winter and snow. LOL

Weight in the rear is a good idea. Studded snow tires with some chains is another good idea. Anything less than a mud & snow tire is marginal on snow and ice. So a set of winter wheels and tires would be a really good idea.

We can not use chains or studded tires here but the winter tires I have used on my past minivan did a great job. Having the 20 inch rims I was hoping to find a set of 17" rims and tires that would not change the spedo that much any thoughts of the size I would need?

I started running winter tires about 10 years ago and the difference is unbelievable. You don't really need to switch rims if you want to save a little money up front but the 100 bucks to switch every spring and fall adds up fast. Even with a 4x4 I switch from all seasons to a true winter tire. I also throw at least 700 to 1000 lbs in the back for weight. With that combination you shouldn't have any issues.

Thanks for all the input the search for rims and tires starts now. I'll start a new thread with pictures when the new rims and tires are on in Sept/Oct.
