Smile How to properly level your Ram 1500 TRX4

1. Bring your wallet, to do it right isn't going to be cheap!

My goal was to level my 2010 TRX4. My truck came stock with 17" wheels and 275 70 17 Goodyears. I did not want to change wheels or tires as they are perfectly fine for my purposes. In order to buy anyones lift kit to run a 4" lift for example, I would have to change wheels to increase offset to clear the upgraded control arms. I did not want to do this.

To get the front of my truck level with the rear I needed 3" to be perfect. I have the HD rear shocks and springs that came with the tow package.

I also figured if I was going to spend money, I would improve mechanical ability, not hinder it.

2. Buy the KORE CV axle upgrade, $750

3. Buy the Bilstein 5100 leveling shocks. $200

4. Install the shocks at the highest setting and install the CV axle upgrade. Should be about $350 for pro install.

5. Align truck. $60

Total cost for a leveling kit for the TRX4 was about $1360. Yep, it's expensive, but you get upgraded shocks, increased ground clearance of 2.5" up front and it actually works. You also get about an inch of bonus front suspension travel doing it this way.

If you don't get the CV axle upgrade, the CVs will bind up and shake the hell out of the truck when you run in 4 HI causing potential damage to the stock cv axles and the transfer case and the wheel hubs. I have absolutely no shake under hard accelleration.

I had a 2" daystar kit in the truck and I got shake under acceleration, I took it out and the problem went away. I then read up on the Bilsteins
http://www.bilsteinus.com/leveling/ARTICLE.pdf
and realized that if I wanted better than street ride height adjustment, this was the way to go. Then to solve the CV bind, the only way was the KORE kit.

There you go. You have to decide if this setup is what you want, but I hope this helps people decide what is best for them.

I'll get a couple pics this weekend.

I forgot to state in the original write up that my truck also has to fit in a 7' tall parking garage. I still have 4" of clearance.

I have the Bilstein 5100's on order for mine, but only doing 1.5" level. Even so, I am interested in the Kore CV upgrade, but did not find it on their web site. Do you have a P/N for the upgrade?

That is a very nice looking truck, thanks for the pics! Definitely like the way it sits and yeah, I was gonna mention the lack of TRX4 stickers.
