Default Garage/Shop to Paint in....

I am looking to see if any of the members here are fairly close to St. Louis, Missouri that have a big garage or a shop where I could paint my truck. My garage is too small to get around the truck and since it is a 2 stage paint ( base/clear) it needs to be uniform otherwise it will look like crap. I have a compressor and everything needed, just looking for the space if anyone can help. There will be overspray and will get on everything if its not a paint booth...lol so it should be more of a carefree shop/barn/garage, all I will need is electric for the compressor (110V ) and lighting.

I would call your local automotive paint store & ask them if they know of a spray booth that you can rent
IF no one in here can help you

Been trying that GT... My buddy works at a shop where they paint fleets and are slow this week, he tried talking to his boss about doing my truck there But the boss is...well you know a Boss...lol He starts getting all hyped up and starts off with, Yeah, $500 just to run the compressor for a couple hours another $200 if you want the lights on..and so on.... then comes up with this $1500 price tag to use the shop for about 2 hours. But yet he brings his motorcycle, his friends cars and trucks in and has my buddy to do it all free for them. Well, for $1500 if I had it, Id just go to Maaco... There are a few shops here in town but they want to do the work and cash, where I got all the supplies and my buddy to do it so I dont want to spend another arm and leg... I could do a case or 2 of beer maybe a BBQ as well for the kindness of using the place. Man talk about times changes, when we were younger we knew everyone and could get just about anything done on friendships, but with the economy there comes alot of greed as well.

Talked with my wife and she is going to let me have the truck sprayed in the garage as our last resort, but she is still pissed that I got the door last time when we did the baja because I failed to cover it not thinking the overspray would settle on the overhead door....lol

Just do a makeshift paintbooth, if possible....I know you said you have limited room. I've painted motorcycles by hanging visqueen from the garage ceiling to keep overspray contained. I would open the garage door about 6" and put a fan in also that sucks the paint fumes outside, when done the fan will be garbage, but this will keep your garage clean. I've done this a handful of times and works well, never had anything in my garage get paint on it. The fan IS important as I did it without the fan once and the garage/house stunk like paint for days.

sn... yes, we did that for my baja, but the door on the inside had a half moon of color, the floors were all blue, but I painted them gray so it looked nice now. I figured lay plastic, build a pvc frame out the door onto the drive and install a filter before the fan since the last fan went in the trash recently. that way we can get completely around the truck. We are doing the jambs, under hood, between cab/bed first so when we do lay the paint all we have to do is prep it and cut loose. Im just going to cover the entire garage with plastic like a giant box with a filtered opening for fresh air as well so we get a good down draft.

Yeah that's basically what I did (although mine was only about 6' x 10' as it was a motorcycle). I laid down an old sheet to cover the floor, I made a ~6' x 10' 1"x2" wood furring strip frame that I hung with hooks from the ceiling (the kind to hang bieks upside down), then stapled the visqueen to that and taped the corners together (I didn't "seal" it just made it so they would stay overlapped....I left one side overlapped but loose so I could pull it back and walk in....for the vent/fan I just put a little 6" fan on the floor facing outside and taped the plastic around it so it'd suck air from the "paint booth" and not outside.....It worked alot better than most would think, however I do still have very good paint gun and a so so compressor, and a really good mask...a better fan would have helped alot though, like a big one instead of a 6" er. I've also rattle canned like this, again people would be amazed at what you can do in your garage with a spray can...

yes, I have rattle canned a few cars, if done right and take your time they can come out really nice, sometimes people would say i was full of it when I told them the car was done with 4 cases or more of rattle cans...lol
