Default Chrome Bezel Paint w/pics

Others have already posted on this so no revelations here. I just always feel compelled to catalog and post the mod process when I can just in case it might help. I have had my retinas burned multiple times from the chrome console bezel but my wife got blinded the other day in the front passenger seat and said, "No wonder you want to paint that thing!" Pretty much all the confirmation I needed. Anyway, if you have been blinded, I hope this helps. If not, rock on the way it is. Your call.

1) I could not find a detailer's tool so I bought a plastic putty knife at Lowe's to help me with the removal.
2) GENTLY pry up the bezel. The front and back sides pop out smoother than the door sides.
3) It is stubborn so you have to use a little bit of gumption but not too much. Once you can get your fingers underneath, just pull up softly, it will pop out.
4) Clean thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and make sure it is dry before painting.
5) Plasti-Dip spray paint is available at most major home improvement retail stores in the U.S. Not sure about other parts of the world.
6) Spray a nice even coat. Allow at least 30 minutes between coats. I did this three times to ensure good coverage. Be sure to get the edges of the bezel (I did not on the first spray).
7) Per the instructions, allow 4 hours to dry.
8) Snap back into place for a perfect blend into the rest of the console and no more blinding glare!

Very nice! The same way I did it.. I also did the external antenna and it's chrome base ring. That was a fun tape job....

Way to post the DYI mods! Keep 'em coming.

Great post with great pix. I have yet to be blinded by mine, but if I ever do, I will likely be back here for the 'How to' before attaching it with the wrong tools.

I've never used the Plasti dip. Is it something special, or just a brand name of paint? thanks Doug

I'd like to do this on my SLT around the center console (where the radio is) and the vent rings.
I've purchased some plastidip and experimented on a piece of plastic.
In my opinion, plastidip might be prone to scratches, more so than than I expected, especially as it gets hot. A slight motion with the finger nail put a permanent gash on the surface I tested.

Any other options?
Thanks.

You could probably use a good primer followed by some matte black spray paint. I would imagine it would be about the same. I used Plasti-Dip because the look and texture is a perfect match to the existing trim. Thanks for the heads up on the scratching. I will be sure to keep an eye out for that. The nice thing about this mod is that it would not be hard to do over if necessary.
