My Monte Carlo experience soured me on MDS. It functioned OK I guess, but when it was running on 4 cylinders the exhaust note sounded funny. That car only weighed 3400 pounds and some change, but even with MDS it never averaged more than 22-mpg. Heck, my 97 Mark VIII got better MPG than that.

Personally I love the 4.7 because Im not gonna need unnessary power, all i need it to do is pull my family and a Uhaul Trailer when I move. This is perfect for me!

gas mileage is my only complaint i have on my Ram... i average 16mpg running 87 octane... i drive mostly city, with a 15 mile highway run each way to work.. i drive with a heavy foot and run 70-75 on the highway...

Love my 4.7, great truck all around, had well over 9,000lbs behind it before and the thing runs. I have 3.92s and 545RFE with 2 2nd gears. My only disappointment? Gas Mileage. I was getting 15-16 first 30,000, then seemed to drop to 12-13, now with 285 70 17 pirelli scorpions i get 9.5 on the overhead, 10 fill and and calculate. Given ive been hauling a 4,000lb trailer and when its not hooked to it, it was hooked to a 7,500 pounder. Even before the to weeks of constant hauling i was getting 11. This next tank is going to be my trial. New tank of gas, new air filter, new synthetic oil with a quart of lucas oil treatment. See what happens I guess and go from there.

I like my 08 4.7. I get 17 to 18 mpg in the city and 20 to 22 mpg on the hwy. The only mods is a K&N filter and increased tire pressure to 40 pounds. I hvae pulled a 5500 pound 54 Chrysler New yorker on a 20 ft car trailer through the hills of NW Arkansas with no problems. The low end torque could be better. All in all it has been a good truck. Am looking at getting a Predator programer for it to see if I can get a little more out of it. Has anybody tried one of these prograers?

Can't comment on the diablo from personal experience, but I have a flashpaq, and the diablo should give similar results. These engines gain ALOT from a tuner. superchips gives 50hp 55lb ft max gain on the performance tune, I'd assume diablo is about the same.

I have an 05 QC 4x4 I just purchased with the 4.7L, and love it! Got a good deal on it and it came with a magnaflow dual out exhaust, sounds great and looks even better! Originally I was in the market for the hemi, and found some with comparable prices but the truck I ended up buying was just very well taken care of and clean compared to the others.
So I just ordered a K&N CAI and am thinking about a set of headers,( do they make LT's for the 4.7?) just to make sure it breathes as efficient as possible. I am currently averaging 16-17mpg combined in town and hwy and want to boost those mpgs a bit more if I can, would love to see 20hwy! Has anyone noticed as much of an improvement with the older 4.7's and a chip as the newer 4.7L's? I wonder if there is a mild cam out there that could help boost the lower end torque without creating issues with the computer and emissions...

I don't think they make LT's but I know they make shorties. You can swap to the HO cams they are a common swap and good with the stock ecm.

I have put about 1500 miles on it, most of it hauling a loaded trailer down to Table Rock lake in Mo.

It got 12 pulling the trailer, mostly at 70+ mph. 15 on the hiway, on the return trip without the trailer, but the bed was loaded.

Lots of down shifting in them hills, especially pulling the trailer.

I would like to have the Hemi, as I have one in my Challenger and love it, 13s and 28mpg.

But, the 4.7 is starting to win me over, and I look forward to learning more about it, and hopefully improving it's performance.
I just got the full motivation to get some mods done to this motor.

I was pulling my empty aluminum trailer back from Tablerock Lake, 560 miles north to Chicagoland on Tuesday.

The headwind was so strong, I could not maintain speed in 5th gear. It didn't matter if I matted the thing, it just wouldn't pull and would gradually drop down in speed.

I ended up trying to draft most of the way behind 18 wheelers when possible, the rest of the time I was having to run in 4th.

Just found me a 2008 intake, and will be ordering the adapter from Ramair soon.

Was your trailed the open type, with the mesh ramp folded up? I'm JW....I've noticed with any vehicle it is about 10 times harder to keep hwy speed with the ramps folded up....I now remove them and set them in the trailer if it's empty, and you don't even know it's there then....and if there's a load in the trailer it helps cut the wind, and I find even with a couple thousand pounds heavier it is still easier to maintain speed than with it emtpy and having that damn ramp.
