I got lucky, kind of. when I got into a accident with my trailblazer I was already looking for a RAM. my friend is a drinking buddy with a manager at enterprise so I got a 2011 ram quad cab 4.7 for a rental instead of an econobox on the insurance companies dime. so I got to test drive one for a month. I did feel it was underpowered but I could pull 20 mpg highway according to the display. I actually avg about 16.4 mixed driving when I did the math at the pump. Which for a truck that size seemed ok especially since I never drive the speed limit usually 75 to 80. but since I do occasionally pull a trailer I decided the hemi would be a better choice. honestly I am happy I got the hemi but it does feel underpowered as well for the Ho claims from the factory. I think if I got a reg cab with the right gearing a 4 7 would be a good motor.

The 4th Gen 4.7 is adequate in my quad cab, especially with 3.92's. I wouldnt call it fast, but its a truck, its doesnt have to be fast.

Its definately NOT fast with 7k of boat attached, but it does the yob.

Personally having driven my 4.7 and a few 4th gen hemi's (a couple express's and an RT) I really notice no difference at all between the two until you get into like 3/4 pedal to WOT.

I actually recently took my truck to the dealer and did a drive along and the mechanic asked me what I had done to my hemi and I said it was a 4.7 with tune and converter and he was shocked. We were driving normally though, you can tell it's no hemi at WOT.

Well.. yeah.

I expect a 4.7 and a 5.7hemi to feel pretty much the same if you are just riding along with a light foot. Both have to use the same amount of HP to both cruise at say, 40 mph. The difference being - Is the power there when you want/need it?

Gearing has a huge impact also.. you can compare hemi vs non hemi all day but if the hemi you are looking at also has 4.10 gears.. its going to pull alot stronger off the red light.

I got rid of my 4.7 liter engine and put an entire smart car under my hood(tight fit) for better gas mileage. Now my baby goes 0 to 60 in 5 hours and get 25mpg. To help with the horsepower I took a blow torch to the floorboards and now me and my friends do the Flintstones for extra HP.

Traded my 2010 4.7 for a 2012 5.7. I noticed a pretty big difference in the lower end.
