Gotta say it.... I love my 4.7L PowerTech engine..... even MORE now that I've driven a 5.7L Hemi for the last several days.
I left my 1500 at the dealer for a little warranty problem and they loaned me a Hemi for a couple days.
FIRST thing I did... was say, "WOW!" THIS thing MOVES!
I spent the next two days hot-rodding around, in and out of traffic, spinning rear wheels, using more gas than I ever did before because it was FUN.
Now, I'm back in my 4.7L Tradesman and .... ya know what...??? I don't need all that. If I had a Hemi... I'd tear it up keeping my foot in the gas-tank and buying rear tires and taking Defensive-Driving courses to stay out of jail.
I truly LOVE my smooth 4.7L... and it actually delivers more power than I actually use on an everyday basis, ... It's Peppy enough for traffic and highway...and pulls my boat just fine.
I'm still a satisfied 4.7L PowerTech guy. (But it was fun to punch-around someone else's ride for a day or two.)

I bought my 02 4.7l used with 113,xxx miles. As far as looks of the truck I love it but the overall performance of the 4.7l I'm not to happy with it. But I also have had my truck in and out of the shop for the pasted two years I've owned it. I'm getting ready to put a new reman 4.7l engine from performanceproducts.com and putting a few mods on. Hopefully I won't have any problems with it afterwards. I've never done a hand calculation of MPG but according to my overhead display I was get 14.2MPG. Once I get this new engine and get her back running, I'll check the MPG.

I didn't pay much attention when I bought my 4.7L. Now I wish I had 150-200 hp more. I am kind of stuck with this truck for a few more years, because next car update in our family will be my wife's car + my daughter starts driving soon and she need a car too. I am doing all kind of little mods to the truck, but I am not going to spend money to any serious performance mod. I will wait.

Went from a 5.7 to a 4.7 staying on budget. Happy with the truck not sure if I am just not used to the new motor set up or if it's truly a problem. My truck feels like it had a slip almost when I'm accelerating and then drops to like 800RPM while I'm still trying to gain speed so I have to mash on it and get it to drop a gear to get up to speed is this normal or did I yet again but a lemon?

Na,that's normal on the 13's Sean.
Mine does the same thing, the new gas mileage program really short shifts the tranny.
Mine will shift into 2nd almost as soon as it's rolling, the rpm drops big time, and the truck falls on it's face.
Sorta feels like the tranny's slipping ,it's not really slipping, it's short shifting itself .
The 13's have the new tranny management program, which gets them into the highest gear possible as soon as possible at part throttle.
I bypass the problem,by running the tranny manually, but that sucks too,as the damn button on the shifter, can be very slow to upshift the tranny at times.

800 rpm is nearly idle rpm. Seems abnormal. mine isnt even anywhere near that even if I just barely touch the pedal as little as possible getting it moving. Hard to believe they'd have it shifting to basically idling.

Mine drops to under 900 rpm on the 1-2 shift at light part throttle openings.
It's a royal pain in traffic trust me,but normal.
There's a few changes on tranny tuning between the 10's and 13's that leaves a whole lot to be desired

Very interesting. Not trying to call you a liar at all but I'd like to see that for myself. I paid attention today and accelerating literally as slow as possible it shifted and recovery after shift was around 1300rpm to 2nd gear. This is also with the tune, but the low throttle shift point is basically same as stock so might be 100rpm difference if that.

Mine has never done this but I have one of the last produced 4.7s so it could just be a programing issue I would take it in and see if there is an update.
