Default To Drone, or not to Drone...

Since I have no idea exactly what drone is, or what it sounds like, maybe someone hear (pun intended) can advise me if I have it or not. Here is a video from the cab of my truck while driving. Let me know how the duals sound; Flowmaster 30-series. (BTW, the mic on my flip camera must be top notch because it made the '30-series' sound about 30% louder than it is live from the cab)

I am confused. You want people to listen to your exhaust but you put loud music over your video? That is what the point of this thread is right? I can't really help but I wanted to hear what it sounded like none the less but really couldn't hear much more than the music.

drone is the humming sound that you hear in the cabin. happens when you put aftermarket exhausts on. it isn't a problem, i think it just comes with the territory.

the reason some people don't like it is because you go from having a quiet cabin to having that "hum" in the background all the time (even at low rpms) and it does get a little old when you're on the highway for a while. but if you want your exhaust louder that's just part of it IMO

i had a camaro before this truck and i added magnaflows to it and it the hum was there but the exhaust sounded great. to be honest i don't think the exhaust on the rams needs it, i love the sound of the stock, but to each his own

@Nikeman, was the music REALLY that loud? If the music is to loud...(I'm sure you know the rest of that phrase). Anyways, to calm your nerves, it was automatically added by the Flip video software. Sorry if it bothered you sooooo much.

@Murph, I agree 100%. I thought that was the purpose of adding Flowmasters was to hear the rumble. To expect zero audible change inside the cab is not realistic. I havent taken a long trip since installing, so I guess I have something coming to me. As for driving around town, I'm loving the rumble I get from this mod. BTW, I was pretty happy with the stock muffler as well. It didnt sound bad at all.

"Drone" is resonance within the exhaust system. A "resonator" is added to a lot of exhausts to cancel it out acoustically.

I didn't really hear drone so much as the Flowmaster signature rumble.

my setup drones bad, only in overdrive, its when your at a constant 2K RPM is where you will hear it, It does get annoying, but wouldn't go back to stock because of it

It didn't bother me. I was just curious to hear what the exhaust sounded like inside the cab but the music was a little distracting is all. Sorry I offended you and your video

Thanks for the confirmation guys. I have been really happy with the results so far, and regardless of any drone present or not, I cant see myself going back to the stock muffler.

@nikeman, no hard feelings man. All good.

flow 30's are too loud too drone...I ran flow 50's for a year and decided i wanted to have a normal conversation in the cab so I went with a quiet magnaflow... I love bein the sleeper in the bay area...
