Default Fuel Mileage Calculation

How does the Driver information center calculate gas mileage? It looks like it is only taking the average for the last 50 miles or so. This is different from the GM vehicles I have driven.

It shows the 'average' since the last time it was reset, so if you reset it 50 miles ago, then it's the average of the last 50 miles. If your looking to get the mileage of a trip, reset it at the beginning of the trip. When the trip is complete, the mileage will represent the 'average' for the trip.

Hi,

I was just wondering how the AVG Reads in the 2011 Ram's. Mine is currently @ 17.4 AVG. IS the lower the numer the better casue if im harder on the truck it seems that the numer rises. I'm just a little unclear on how the AVG works.

^ LOL

I guess it's all relative...if you like getting poor gas mileage then yes lower AVG would be better to you! lol

The computer simply takes the average of the gas mileage over the whole time you've been driving since you reset the average. It should be higher mpg AVG if you are driving easier, however, there is a point where driving TOO easy hurts mpg. Like brad said ^^

It doesn't ....lol

Do you understand how your gas mileage changes? Driving with less gas pedal gets you better gas mileage, pretty much. Cruising on the highway gets best mileage, acceleration hurts mileage.... Cruising between say 35mph and 65mph is where you get the best mpg.

Maybe I'm confused...lol?

what engine do you have, the hemi? If you have the hemi and are getting 17+ mpg that's good, and even if you have the 4.7L that's still pretty good...

^ oh didn't realize the metric was opposite! I guess I may have been providing false info...I'm guessing he's metric by his km posting...
